a 'granny chic' giveaway...

oh, i do like a little giveaway
and even more so
a 'granny chic' giveaway

up for grabs is my crocheted granny cushion.
i made her at the beginning of the year.
my little heart swelled with pride upon her completion...
since then she has led a sheltered life,
never being allowed to shine in all her glory
for fear of two and four legged members of mossy shed
causing her a blemish or injury to her pretty ways

i'm thinking it is time she found a forever home,
one that will appreciate her crocheted 'granny chic' goodness.
if you think perhaps you are the granny chic loving home for her
then all you have to do is find your thinking cap and pop it on.

now of course, once again we all know thinking caps can go astray.
but do not fret,
nor run around your abode screaming like a mad one,
causing a fright for all that live with you.
take some deep breaths,
and stay calm,
for you have plenty of time to locate your little cap.
this little giveaway is staying open until
Sunday 30th May 10:00pm pacific time
that is nearly a whole week...
see, plenty of time indeed

once your thinking cap has been located
pop it upon your nut
and then ponder,
you may have to ponder a while
but ponder you must.

i'm thinking for some it may require several days of pondering,
therefore you may have go to work,
perhaps do the grocery shop with your thinking cap,
or even the soccer run...
i'm not sure for those that like to keep a little fit,
how yoga, or swimming fairs with a thinking cap.
i see no harm in removing it whilst you 'keep fit' and then popping it back quick haste afterwards.
being sure of course to keep it safely in the changing room locker whilst you 'keep fit'
for losing it so soon after finding it would surely be quite sad

so my dearest readers
all you have to think about is a philosophy or quote,
some words or a saying,
you like to live by...
if it is one that was written by another
(for there are many famous ones out there)
then that is perfectly okay with me
but please do put who the quote or philosophy belonged to originally.

perhaps it is nothing deep,
quite simply along the lines of
"i try to smile once a day at a passing stranger"
or
"i make sure i hug a tree everyday"
and that is perfectly perfect for me.

i have one that i shared a little while back,
it took a little thinking with the help of my cap,
but when it popped into my little brain
it felt quite right.

Tif's Philosophy
"if i go to sleep at night
knowing i have visited my imagination,
however fleeting it may have been,
then i know i have used my day wisely"

you can enter here in the comments
or email me
do be sure to have an email or blog address
so i may easily contact you

and with that my dearest readers
i am taking a few days off
i shall be pottering with Miss Ethel,
going on a school trip with a bunch of eighteen year olds,
sending our #4 off on a two day school trip
and with a bit of luck,
some crocheting...
all the usual fun and gripping stuff that goes on around the shed.
i will be back on Wednesday 2nd June
with a worthy winner
granny chic giveaway is now CLOSED,
thank you kindly

she is wishing you a peachy week and plenty of thinking time with your caps ~ Tif
footynote: here's the original post where i linked to the pattern for the lovely crocheted granny circle squares. the wonderfully peachy Yvestown kindly shared her pattern :)

(hyperventilating)... i can't believe you are letting go of this beautiful pillow. oh how i hope it's home is destined to be mine. so good luck for me. :)

lately this quote has been "it" for me:
"Several years ago I was reading the newspaper when one of my young grandsons snuggled up to me. As I read, I was delighted to hear his sweet voice chattering on in the background.
Imagine my surprise when, a few moments later, he pushed himself between me and the paper. Taking my face in his hands and pressing his nose up to mine, he asked, "Grandpa! Are you in there?"
(Elder Robert D. Hales/www.lds.org)

reminder to be there for the people i love. sometimes good books especially get me distracted. our families are the most important thing in this life. <3

I try to remember that "life is what happens as you're busy making other plans"; it reminds me to keep focused on the here and now, as well as being spontaneous!

Of course in my more somber moods, of which there are a few, I remember the wise words of my English A-Level teacher when she put her hand on my shoulder after I'd finished espousing some philosophy and said, "Deborah - life is a sh*t sandwich - the more bread you got the better it tastes".

And then there are other pithy kernels of wisdom that ring true:

when his father's an onion and his mother's a garlic, what are the chances he'll smell good?

that's an arab saying.

Dearest Tif, I do believe my thinking cap is working to a higher level than usual today. Therefore I do not even have to wear it to school drop off and risk it getting wet in the stormy weather we have been gifted with this week.

I must say, before I enlighten you with my own personally written quote, that your wonderful cushion would be very much doted on at our house. It would blend in very nicely and have a fun life, perhaps even some time in a sofa blanket tent at times.

Now I shall begin my quote. (Clearing throat) There is no such thing as a mistake, there's just another chance to be creative. I wholeheartly believe and live by this quote. I have enhanced creations many a time by living this way.

Thank you for reading my drivveling message. I do hope it is worthy of a place in your pot.

{gasping in astonishment at your wonderful giveaway!} and for my quote...I love this one by Charles Swindoll:

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes. - Charles R. Swindoll

Wish I could get it tattooed on my arm so I could remember it more!!

I would so very much love to house your granny cushion, it's simply beautimous. Unfortunately, my moggies would also love it, but in a slightly more violent way than I would like. So I will content myself with admiring it from afar, and I will be benignly jealous while happy for the winner when he/she is announced.

I will give you this piece of wisdom, imparted upon my consciousness by my younger sister (who was three years old at the time, mind you). "Life sucks, then you die." Can't remember what I was complaining about, and couldn't tell you who she picked that little nugget up from, but it's always worth repeating. *grin*

An amazing blog friend sent me a card with this quote on the back, "If I keep a green bough in my heart, then the singing bird will come." It's an ancient Chinese proverb, and it's full of hope, which is a rare and precious commodity for me.

I recently came home from 10 weeks caring for my sister and niece who just went through a divorce, and I sat in my country garden (in the outskirts of Seattle) and stared at the violent wind playing with the evergreens...and recovered a small bit of hope that had been stolen by the complicated actions of others. Washington IS my green bough.

One of the quotes I adore is this one by Thoreau: "Beware of any enterprise that requires new clothing." Not only does it crack me up, but upon further contemplation, I think it offers some more insightful advice. If we are not already prepared with the clothing we have, is the considered endeavor truly a reflection of our most authentic selves? Hence, maybe we should be wary, indeed. Food for thought.

If we allow ourselves to not get so caught up in the bad things that happen inevitably each and every day, and go out of our way to learn and grow from each challenge and turn it around into a blessing for ourselves or someone else, then I believe true happiness follows!

And may I just say that not only is that pillow beautiful, so is your blog and I'm very happy I stumbled across it a few weeks ago. Keep up the lovely work!

to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly;
