i appear to have a new addiction, as with most addictions it creeps upon you unawares. now as addictions go, i do believe it is on the lower scale, closer to 'harmless' and quite far from 'dangerous' but then again, is it...
i am blaming my newly acquired addiction on Ivor the ipad and a little pesky doggie who lives in a suitcase.
it started with the occasional 'instant pic' and now has escalated into daily pics. and whilst i'm confessing, i will mention, the daily pic i post to the world wide web is only one of many i took that day and deleted. and that is where i know my addiction has got out of control...
i have become secretive with my instant 'little olive' pics!
i snap them, look at them, warm my heart with her sweetness in them, and then delete them for fear others would see my need to photograph my little doggie countless times in a suitcase throughout the day, as a sign of insanity.
yes an addiction that you wish to hide or fret what others may think, is a worrisome one to have. so today i took my last 'happy snap' of a little pesky doggie with legs of little length and am going cold turkey.
i have told myself for one whole week i must go without taking a pic and posting it out for others to have it pop up on their feeds, roll their eyes and go, "seriously, not another". i am not even allowing myself to take sneaky secretive ones either, no sirree! none of this, 'just let me take one and delete it, no one will ever know' business, for that is a rocky road for sure.
so cold turkey is it, i am not sure i am strong enough, i am not sure i can make it through and to be honest i am not sure why i have to really, but i do! because the little voice inside my head has told me so. has spoken loud and clear "Tif, get a grip you daft addicted bat" and therefore i must listen.
i am already shaking, it has only been 40 minutes since i took the final, 'no more for a week after this one' instant joy happy snap... the one you see just above this, the one where little olive is being pesky, waiting for folks to walk past in neon anoraks, (flaunting their keep fit ways at us) so she may woof at their flaunting ways alongside her buddy 'used dog'. i note how handy it must be for her that i placed the stool there last night, how convenient she has a little 'leg up' at the front. i note how sweet and perfect her little patches are and her velvety over-sized ears, i note... i note i need to go cold turkey
As addictions go, this is one I would enable you with. Olive is adorable and I love the soft, old-fashion hues of these photos.
Don't think you should give it up! Our puppies provide such pleasure, and after all it is harmless, so continue, keep it up, share with the world! And then go rub little olives belly, and nuzzle her nose!
You gave me such a fright… up until reading 'for one week' my adrenaline was pit a pat "oh no, no more olive pictures? Ever?"
This is so comforting for this fellow blogger obsessed with every movement her dog makes! In fact, my blog is even named after my dog. And yet it isn't a blog about dogs. So never fear, however addicted you become, you can remind yourself that there is someone out there with exactly the same problem! (And for the record, I could never get tired of looking at photos of little Olive - adorable).
But oh soo sweet... I just adore the little bottom suitcase shot. I'd happily frame it and hang it on my wall. I had a cat for a week recently and kept taking photos of her all curled up and with paws in the air so I do understand... when they look so cute what's a girl to do!!! Smiles Cass x
Seems a perfectly sane and harmless addiction to me!
Ahhhhh, go ahead. I love seeing Olive's pictures esp. in the suitcase.
how cute the doggie is :)
Why stop?! Since I got my new smartphone I am also taking pics the whole day!!!!
Hahaha! I know what you mean. Ever since we adopted my brother's dog into our family, I can't help taking video of her. She doesn't really even do anything in them, yet I can't stop turning on that camera. (Although I was way worse with my niece and nephew when they were little. I swear there isn't a moment I was with them that the camera wasn't snapping pics or taking video of them).
But you're not alone, and I say take as many pics of your little baby as you want. Personally, I think one can never go wrong with photos of furkids. Of course, I currently have 5 of them so maybe I'm a little bias. :p
So we must go cold turkey with you!!??? How can any of us stand to not see that sweet little face in her cozy suitcase or anywhere else for that matter?
Oh you do make me giggle! We all love to see photos of the gorgeous Little Olive especially when she's curled up in her suitcase bed or better still when she's illegally parked. Keep them coming I say.
Oh, what? No pretty poses of pesky dog? pah and thrice times pah.
Hope your cold turkey gets roasted.
The pics of the dog who lives in the suitcase are darling and they warm my heart too! I give you permission to snap and post!
I hadn't really seen Instagram before, so I'm an all new (enabling) audience for you :) If I had a cutie pie like that hiding in a suitcase I'd be snapping all day long too!
oh dear, I have the same addiction with instagram and my little pug! x
Never. You cant stop lovin' a little doggie. They is too, too cute and soft and charming and .....
haha that's SoOOO funny Tif! About 2 mins before I read your post I just looked at my pooch curled up and thought 'ooo that would make such a cute photo but no one would want see that on my blog'. I so know what you mean about it being an addiction; they're such gorgeous little muses aren'y they? Good luck with the cold turkey thingo, sounds like it'll be a toughie. I'm off now to take said pic of my hairy boy and I shall post it on my blog and link back to you
p.s. I LOVE the fact that Olive sleeps in a suitcase! I wish I could find one big enough for a boxer!
let yourself do it. they are good for your soul. :)
oh, no, I love your addiction as I love little Olive and can't get enough of her adorable-ness. Yes, this is an addiction that I heartily support! =)
Dear Tif, I am not sure you will be strong enough to not take another photo for a whole week - Little Olive is just so adorable and you must realise that out here in blogland we just all LOVE her to bits and never tire of pics of her - especially the ones tucked up in her little bed. I have an "addiction" to taking pics of my 2nd-hand dog with his tongue hanging out sound asleep & twitching!!! I think in terms of obsessions, it is a harmless one & he never protests a bit!!! Luv Julie :-)
I for one enjoy viewing the pics of the pesky little dog that lives in a suitcase, she is adorable and the pics Ivor produces are wonderful...but I do understand the need to "step away" from the thrill of this highly addictive habit as I too am in danger of snapping too many pics of a couple of pups I know using the same technology you yourself have stumbled upon. Best wishes in keeping the turkey cold.
Pretty cute addiction. More, more!
So cute!! I can't believe she sleeps in that great suitcase. What a sweetie!!
Oh heavens no! You mustn't stop! I adore little olive and your snaps of her and her whereabouts! I will worry if you stop - what has become of little olive? You can't deprive me! Please!
I have a serious addiction to taking pictures of my little multi-breed terrier, Dolly. It's impossible not to photograph her daily when she rolls on her back in the yard or falls asleep on the back of the sofa, facing the window, or taking a video when she barks and runs in her sleep (all while lying down) or when she hops in the pond to drink the water instead of leaning at the edge.
In short, I sympathize! Also, I love Little Olive pictures. I have yet to tire of them. I love dogs too much.
oh but they are just so darn cute!!
Oh no that's a bad idea it's part of why I read your blog and yes I too love my little guys and am just as bad. Mine even tweet!!! I'm a mess
Darling girl, The small furry ones are with us for such a short time and their winning ways are for us to acknowlege with love. Do not know why you have been deleting pictures of your babe. You could easily put them together in a flip book and they would only last for seconds of viewing at a time. I am currently making a commemorative book for my Carmel Kitty, who was our furry child for 10 years. We wish now that we had taken more pictures, though at the time, it seemed as if we were taking too many pictures of her. Every day she would show us how full of life and love she was and how we could be. I suppose this is not really "helping" with your quest to not take a picture for a week, but might show that I understand. It doesn't help that they are so darn cute and photogenic. LOL Hugs from Alaska, Sherry
aahhh nooo don't go cold turkey if it makes you happy. I love seeing them there so sweet he is one sleepy doggy but adorable. dee x
Haha, you remind me of me. Before Herbie, my gorgeous big bull mastiff passed away I must of took 10+ photos of him daily :0) I say forget the cold turkey and get snappy happy! X
Hope you're doing ok, it's not an easy task you've set yourself. Sneaky pet iphone photography does take over, but they're so sweet it's impossible not capture them, if it was our baby or children it would be seen as ok, so why does the pet thing make us a bit kooky?. I wish you well with your cold turkey, I try to do only one pet shot a week, it's hard but a must. x.
Now you see if my cocker spaniel Bertie would snuggle in a suitcase and look half as adorable as Olive, I should be stalking him with my camera too. Sadly he's a sprawler.
Perhaps you could wean yourself off? Maybe create a little Olive collage which you could feast your eyes on every time the desire to photograph cropped up.
If it's any consolation, from time to time I have to visit your blog purely to see the pic of her in your sidebar!
I empathise. My children complain I used to take pictures of them, now my photo reel is all chickens, cats and Luna my 8 month golden doodle. But she is with me all day, looking at me adoringly and all waggy!
Hi Tif. Your little dog is a cutie pie and I would take lots of photos too. I wanted to let you know that I am planning to blog about how wonderful your book is. I tried to email you, but keep getting an error so I didn't know how else to notify you. I will be sure to add a link to your blog and your etsy shop.
I know what you mean, and I like the pics of little olove so much! I do the same with my little dog Rudi. He doesn`t have a suitcase, but he loves his new ergo bed for elderly dogs. Next tuesday he will turn 12 years old and I`m so proud of my little big funny cute dog Rudi.
Have a nice day and best wishes from Braunschweig/Germany Susanne
Love this post! You are the most entertaining blogger. Especially those flaunting keep fit ways. Thanks!
Why don't you just hold on to this addiction? It's quite a harmless and lovely one, I'd like to see more photo's of your sweetie. :) Be kind to yourself and make photo's - and don't delete them! ;)
For one day you'll realise it might be very nice to still have them. :)
you never fail to make me chuckle, tif! thanks for your silly honesty. but i'm not sure i'm willing to give up my chocolate sneaks cold turkey as you are bravely modeling with your camera taking ways.
Keep em comin!! Oliveisadorable
Why do you really need to? Ask yourself that. Dogs have that essential qte-ness about them that demand, yes, demand, being photographed. Why is that a bad thing?
Love your addiction to taking "poochy pics"- I also have very photogenic puppies, and make no apologies for being a proud mummy showing the world how beautiful it is when you have gorgeous doggies in your life x
Haaa aaaa aaaa! Seriously...laughing SO out loud! :D Hope I didn't contribute to your conundrum...although it is really wonderful to see little Olive out and about getting into some peskyness! ;) You may or may not remember that I too have an Olive (fox terrier) who sleeps in a suitcase... and therefore quite honestly...can feel your pain. Sadly however Android has not implemented Instagram as of yet...or should I say happily? Best wishes for your week... :)
You must not stop! I do love seeing the personality and joy of your little darling.
Oh, she is sooooo lovely! How could you resist?
Sorry, Tif. I cannot support your wanting to conquer that addiction as I am afraid that my addiction is viewing such photos as you have posted of little olive.
Dachshunds have such heartwarming ways as you have perfectly illustrated...burrowing into a pillow slip (the process of which is hilarity to the max). And the way they are just so carefree about their ear-do...maybe perfectly coifed and in place, perhaps both ears flipped back (we call this JarJarBinksStyle), and maybe one neatly tucked in covers while the other casually rests outside the nest.
I cannot help it. Please don't stop your addiction as it will mean the end of mine.
How can you go cold turkey, Miss Olive is just such a sweetie I'd be pretending to be David Bailey (the only photographer I can ever remember...which also shows my age a smidge!)take the photos Tif, take the photos...she probably enjoys it as much as you do...and isn't your sabbatical all about getting the small pleasures back, and what else is Miss Olive, but a "small pleasure"
Well, it is a very cute dog, worthy of all the attention!
But but but but that means I have to go cold turkey.... noooooooo!
Oh wait! I can just scroll back and get my cutie pie fix.
Little Olive is irresistible! Even across the screen and the ocean! Some addictions can only be managed, not eradicated, so I hope you do not go too cold on the turkey side. I love looking at the bliss and peace of this granny-loving 4-legged critter...
I found you blog surfing, OMGoodness, I love this post. Huge doggie lover, and I think I just fell in love with yours...lol! Off to see more of your blog.
You can never have too many pictures of Miss Olive - but Used Dog needs some equal facetime!
I love little Olive and Used Dog stories so I hope you won't be able to completely eradicate your addiction. I'm awarding you the Versatile Blogger award for continuing to inspire us readers with your wit and crafts. http://theteacupincident.typepad.com/the-teacup-incident/2012/03/the-versatile-blogger-award.html
you are absolutely hilarious!
cold turkey is sooooo over-rated... best warmed up on a bap with cranberry sauce... besides, this doggie is way cute!
Being an addict myself (mostly of fabric), I am very jealous of your little doggies beautiful fabric 'props', in fact I have fallen a little bit in love with the one in the top photo, so I was wondering is it fabric or a rug? Whichever, it is quite beautiful!
oh, but the pictures are sooo cute tho! haha. and instagram is just tooooo fun. :)
I am so glad I stumbled upon you today! I needed a laugh and boy did you and your little pup provide that for me! Thank You!!! Please, please, don't stop with the instant pics! I'm certain there won't be any long term effects, well, maybe a few laugh lines!
Oh my goodness, so adorable! I sure hope you don't go cold turkey for long. Love the pics!
Hi Tif, I totally get this.... I just adore my little doggie too and all the cute poses he has, especially when he is sleeping - not to mention all the sweet little doggie faces..... If it makes you happy, then go for it!
I see book illustrations.
deep breathes dearies! tomorrow i will report in on a week of going cold turkey :)
how can you NOT love a little dog that lives in a suitcase? As addictions go, this is a GOOD one.
Hey, dottie angel! I love your site. I couldn't believe the pic of that rack of aprons like my Grandma used to wear. It brought back so many good memories of her. ;)
I searched your site over and over to see if you had a tutorial for the grande market sac, but I didn't see it. Are you sharing that pattern? I'd love to have it. ;) I'm on Pinterest and so addicted to it. LOL Thanks for your attention and your beautiful blog! Chris
no you won't find a tutorial on my bags, i do how-tos on lots of things, here and there but i do not on the items i make and sell in my etsy store. i am quite sure you undertand :)
many thanks for stopping by and if you do pin my photos as many have done already on pinterest, please do add a link back to me under the photo, i appreciate it most greatly!
have a peachy day :)
