only fair...

as i said i would show you,
it would seem only fair that i do it sooner
rather than later
so today, i donned my new thrift store overalls
for the class field trip.
i took Mr Hook along for the ride
but alas he saw no action...

as i chaperoned young lads around the international district
i had high hopes the sound of a fiddle would be heard
and
kevin rowland from dexy's midnight runners would appear
and take me away from it all...
but just like Mr Hook
i saw very little action in the way of being 'whisked away'.

upon returning to the shed,
a little bedraggled...
i looked into the mirror
and came to the conclusion,
no matter what words of wisdom are written
with regards to the 'age limit' for overall wearing
i will never ever forsake my peachy friends again.
for with my rose colored specs firmly upon my nose
i will continue to believe,
me and my overalls make quite the pair

I agree certain things like overalls, knee high socks, milkshakes and pillow fights should never have an age limit. They look wonderful on you- I've been looking for the right engineer pair for years.. one day the thrifting faeries will bring them to me- I'm convinced!

You wear them well :~)

You look positively adorable. And are those mini-accordian thingies chinese lanterns strewn about the floor near your feet? Pink ruffled cardigan, yes.

I find I am oft to ask myself "self haven't we come to an age in which fashion norms just doesn't matter anymore as long as we like how we look?" And self always answers with a resounding "YES" "We" think your overalls are simply smashing and very peachy!
Cheers!

The overalls are fabulous, don't ever be swayed by the uninformed words of some fashionista ever again!

overalls R-O-C-K!!! I don't care what ANYONE says....they are fabulous!!! And you thrifted them....Shut Up!! Who are the made by? They...are...fantastic. Overalls are like a string of pearls...ageless. They have and always will be "it." Rock on sister!

I *love* your new overalls (I call them dungarees - is this a British vs American thing?)

I'm very inspired to get my own pair. I used to have a fabulous pair of PATCHWORK dungaees when I was about 14 but I sent them to the charity shop when I outgrew them. May have to hunt down a denim pair, but I shall ignore the advice you were given about not wearing them after 30 as that's not too far in the future for me!

I agree Tif...a match made in heaven. I think the 'no dongins over 30' rule is for people like me who sadly have a little middle spreading going on. You look gorgeous in them! Lots of love, Amanda xxx

Oh those dungarees are indeed 'peachy' - on you! Suspect my cake-lovin' ways may make them not so 'peachy' on me - may you continue to rock the look for many a year to come!

Oh my goodness. You make overalls look cool and funky and artist-y. Now I am yearning for my beautiful, broken in, black denim overalls that bit the dust in 1992.

They were an awesome find!

I love your overalls and am so happy you found a replacement for the ones you let go! I do think they need a little Dottie Angel touch though :P

I love my overalls. My favorite way to wear them is really big, dropped low on the chest with a tight white tee and a brightly colored shrug.

you look fab! i do, indeed, now want to reclaim my pairs of long ago donated overalls.

beautiful! I love the overalls!

You look adorable in your overalls and love the ruffly pink sweater too!
Being more ancient than you, I tend to find myself humming "Our House" while wearing mine ;-), but do dearly love 'Come on Eileen' as well and have it in my itunes 80's mix -- love love 80's music -- so happy!

Madelief said...

Hello Tif,

I think the overall suits you! I used to wear them as well, but nowadays its more skirts, jeans and dresses....

Maybe it will become fashion again. When I look at the way you wear it I think this is easily possible ;-)!

Oh, and I´m about to join your challenge, I do it officially in a couple of weeks. Well, actually I don´t have any money to shop for now, so I´m really living the frugal thrifty life already... :D

yay! i love them on you!- and at 38 years old i want mine back too! i had some super soft denim ones and some khaki ones too. i wore them almost every day, but was somehow also persuaded that they were no longer cool. the great thing about getting older is that now i just don't care and maybe it could be my quirk- that i'm still wearing overalls as a grandma- the most comfy of all! you look totally cool to me- love it with the pink jumper! :)

Great song! And great overalls. I have a pair sulking in my closet...must get them out. (I wore maternity overalls during my pregnancies as well.) I think they are due for a comeback!

It is time to let go of rules, which are simply for people with no imagination, and wear what makes you feel happy all the way down to your toes! I have a pair of unbleached off-white denim ones that I have been meaning to put thrifted patches and scraps on. NOW I am going to do it and have so much fun along the way! Thanks for inspiring me. I am 52 and don't care whether I "should" wear them -- of course I should because my heart will sing in them!!! Claudia (aka Daisy Fleabane)

Hello dear Tif
Ah, how happy am I to see your dungarees?
I was the biggest, nay the BIGGEST Dexy's fan back in my teenage days and I found myself the scruffiest pair of dungarees at a jumble sale. They were men's dungarees, I hasten to add! And I wore those dungarees every day to sixth form, and everywhere else, and was no doubt the most dishevelled skinny teenager on the streets of Bath. But I wore my dungarees and daps with pride and with the words of Kevin always in my mind... such happy days they were too. In fact, I now have to go find my Dexy's CD and pop it on to listen along....
