a 'thankfully glee' giveaway...

whether you celebrate thanksgiving or not, it is always good to every now and then, count one's blessings and give a little thanks.
i am thankful for many things in my life that go without saying,
my family that have strong opinions on doilies,
my aging but healthy body and dubious sanity,
my creatures that reside at mossy shed and don't talk back,
my nostril hair of the worst kind and the path it took me down,
and one other thing...

a 'thing' that has been my constant companion for 41 years, sometimes i've used it and sometimes i've neglected it, but it has always been there, lurking in the background patiently waiting for the moments i allow it to shine.

so this thanksgiving
i am thankful for...

my imagination...
quite simply i would not be who i am without it.

and so dearest readers it is now your turn to count a blessing or two, for some this is not always an easy thing to do, for the road can be quite rough at times. but i do think with a little thought, even the smallest of things can be worth being 'thankful' for.

and when you have done your 'thankful' thinking, leave me your 'giving thanks' comment here or send it in an email to tif@dottieangel.com and i will pop you in a 'thankfully glee' dish and announce a winner on Thursday Dec 3rd.
i'm hoping that Speedy will pick out the winner but he has just informed me that he's busy redecorating his 'pad' and so might not be available. if that's the case then i am hoping for a 'passing stranger' to aid me with this giveaway...

of course it has just occurred to me, that i haven't actually mentioned what i have to 'giveaway'.
i can assure you, it will not be,
my family with opinions on doilies,
my aging body and dubious sanity,
my creatures that reside at mossy shed,
nor my nostril hair of the worst kind
(i hear cries of relief over at least two of those things).

no dearest readers,
i have to offer in the way of thanking you most kindly for being nice and lovely people,
("ooooh, Tif, that's special"... i hear you gasp)
but wait, there is more
one yarn ball wreath, from the archives of my crafting epiphanies, made in November 2007, yes i do believe it could almost be called 'vintage dottie angel'.
so there it is,
a magazine and a ring of yarn balls,
surely that makes for an excitingly 'thankfully glee' giveaway.

so it just leaves me to say, my sister-in-law and her little one are coming to stay at mossy shed tomorrow, and so i shall be gone until the 3rd.
but do not fear dearest readers as i have made you a 'to do' list in my absence.
for some of you that don't craft, it may be a little tricky but i'm sure this may be the very 'to-do' list that gets you going down the crafty road i travel everyday...

1. make a 'grandma twinkle' garland courtesy of the fabby michelle
2. find someone else to clean the toilets and wash the floor
3. make a wonky crocheted tree courtesy of my dodgy directions (and you will have to scroll down on the post to actually find the directions, because as usual i have waffled a whole ton before the instructions)
4. avoid looking at your nostrils up close for a whole week
5. visit the 'challengers of the utmost kind' on my sidebar and be inspired by their thrifty handcrafted 'gleeful' creations
6. eat lots of chocolate
7. make a grandma tree courtesy once again, of the wonderfully generous creative brain of michelle
8. cut up a 'boiled' gleeful sweater belonging to your man, or mother-in-law and make a simple but gleefully charming garland
9. be thankful and gleeful as much as possible, it's quite contagious and spreads rapidly

she is looking forward to reading your 'thankfully glee' comments and wishes you a 'gleeful' 10 days without her ~ Tif

I am thankful for....

my wonderful husband and my beautiful daughter.
the wonderful relationship I have with my mother.
the times I get to myself to bake and craft.
everything in my life - the good and the bad.

I am so thankful for my sense of humour and being able to look on the bright side of things.
I don't know what happens to me when times of grim strike involving exams, hospitals, police stations, paying bills, crying children....but I turn into Jerry Seinfeld. It's comforting to know that when others are losing their minds or are crying messes, I come along and do standup.
But then I expect that could be rather irritating to the lost mind messes.
Oh well. :)

Have a wonderful relaxing time with your dear sis.

I am always telling myself to count my blessings and trying to find things to be glad about, in the manner of little Pollyanna, but I think the concept of gleefulness takes it all to a whole new height. And the concept of legions of readers boiling up their mother-in-laws' sweaters (cashmere, I am sure) and then cutting them into pieces has had my sides splitting with glee. I will suggest this to all my friends.

Yours hysterically

As usual your post has made me smile and today was even more entertaining for I had not stumbled accross your blog when the dreaded nasal hair first presented its little self! I have to say that I am truely thankful for so many things, but today I am without a doubt most thankful to know that there are other women MY AGE who everyday fearlessly fight the battle of the Roque Hairs. Thank you! On Thursday, I will do a (silent of course) salute to you as I raise my wine glass. Happy Holidays:)

I too am thankful for your imagination! It is a beautiful & wonderous thing!

What am I thankful for...?! Oh so much!

I am thankful for my little family, my gorgeous, attitude abundant Little Punk & my cheeky amusing darling.

I am thankful for my creativity, my urge to make things, to draw things, to "fix" things, and my ability to do it.

I am thankful for my individuality. Being part of the crowd is increadibly overrated, and like you my dear, if I did not have it, I would be an entirely different person.

There are so many more things, but I shant clutter up your comments with my yammering, I will just smile & think of it all, being quietly thankful.

Thank YOU for making me think about it. Have a lovely & gleeful time off without us, we will eagerly await your return!!!

I'm so thankful that I found your blog via the very Artful Blogging magazine you're giving away. Don't own my own copy, just browsed it at the bookstore. Would love to win.

I'm thankful for time with family. In my case that seems a bit wonky, since I homeschool my children and am with them all day but my life is enriched (most of the time) being with my 2 girls. They make me laugh, and laughter is the world's best medicine I think. I may not live through this year because one is a senior but it's been a good run. :0)

Off to Facebook your wonderful giveaway. Might even throw caution to the wind and tweet it as well!

I am thankful, plain and simple. For all the things already mentioned and more. Still, right now, this very minute I am thankful for Althea.

Althea is a hard knuckled old broad that used to be my neighbor. She lived in the Triplex next to our house when we moved in and she took a liking to me. There was no guessing, it was clear by lines on her face that she had a tough life and maybe made a few bad choices. She could be loud, ornery, and some days seem buck wild crazy. She was always kind to me.

When the building was sold, she moved on. She comes back about once a month or so - knocks on my door and says, "How you doin' baby?" She calls my daughter "little mama" and tells me to tell her son (my husband) that she says hello. We save up our bottles and cans for her, sometimes I give her a beer from the fridge. We chat in the doorway and I know she is not feeling well. She is ageless in a way but, if I had to guess, I'd say she was in her 70s. She takes care of grand babies and her great grand babies, she collects cans and bottles to keep her existing. Before she leaves we hug, she tells me, "I love you baby!" She just now came by and so...

I am thankful for Althea...that she still comes around, that she loves me in her own way, that she reminds me of all the things I am thankful for.

Well of course I'm thankful for Mr Kitsch, but also all the bread products in world! I love good bread - a cottage loaf, a baguette, a ciabatta, an overnight loaf or stone-baked boule. Crumpets, muffins (english ones, I mean), rolls, bagels, pittas, naans, I could go on...And toasting and warming just adds to the glee!

I'm in the UK, so you don't need to include me in your giveaway, but I'm doing a giveaway too, and I'd love you and your readers to drop by and take part!

Hi Dottie,

Thanks for the giveaway op.

I am thankful for my body. BEcause through the years I have mentally and verbally abused it. I have complained that it is never good enough and I have shamed it to no end. But then I slowly began to realize how beautiful and miraculous it was. I can walk where I want to, it takes me through yoga classes (my favourite blissful 'me' time), it created, nurtured and gave birth to my son, the love and light of my life. Because of my body I can smell flowers, taste cookies, and see sunsets. Above all else, it allows me to love and be loved. My body is teaching me the lessons I need to learn to grow and to be a wiser, gentler and compassionate person.

xo Meagan.

I am most definitely thankful for you, dear Tif, and your beautiful pictures that always inspire me to be creative and to make my home a pretty handmade one. (I love that turquoise stool, and especially that brown/cream blanket with the flowers on it. So pretty.)

And, Speedy, or a 'passing stranger', if you're listening, please pay careful attention when she throws my name in that dish. I so love that wreath. The issue of Artful Blogging would be great, too, but that wreath...!

Other things to be thankful for... thrift stores when the yard sales are over, shiny vintage Christmas balls, twinkly white lights, garlands of lace, and linens, of thrifted felted wool sweaters, or of paper.

Maybe I should just say 'garlands'.

And, I'm thankful for a husband who knows how to say the right things at the right time. And, for the little ones who sometimes do wrong things at the wrong time but they keep us smiling because of it. :)

I am thankful for our chickens...
heehee. We got them in May as 6 tiny balls of fluff. Together our family of 7 built their coop, painted it, hung Green Man above the door and have watched them grow. It is amazing to see a boy of 15 (one of our 5 children) love them the most. He picks them up, takes care of them best, and was overjoyed to find eggs three weeks ago after being told by countless farmers we would not have eggs in New England until February!
My girls talk to me daily and I often find myself sitting by their coop or letting them roam on bails of hay under my watch to bring back the simplicity in my life. I am thankful for their offerings and companionship.

P.S. My man claims to despise the word doily; but I see a twinkle in his eye when I say it!!

Happy Thanksgiving Tif!

Well I'm thankful for -

the fact that my glasses aren't strong enough for me to even see if I have nostril hair or not.

the ability to still bend to reach my toes and paint them any colour I fancy.

the fact that I gave in and was a nice sharing mummy with my cream doughnut tonight. It was mine after all, I was going to eat it secretly, but they found it first.

most of all I'm so thankful for the wake up call I had recently that however many worries you have look at the small acts of magic and pleasure in your life. Really reaping the benefits of that one.

Enjoyed thinking about this one Tif - so thanks.

today, a ton of things have popped into my brain and i have thought to myself, how will i manage to say nothing for 10 days other than the odd 'twitter'... it will be a test of my 'blogging addiction' that is for sure.
it's only been 24 hours and i miss you :)

Dear Tif,
i am thankful to be healthy at this present time. Last holiday season was filled with illness. right now, i'm i guess you could say, in remission.
And so when i get overwhelmed of everything my family needs or wants, i stop and remember to be thankful that i am well enough "to do" for them.
Thank you Lord for your wonderful grace.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
love, mairlyn

I have re-discovered Glee after finding your blog. I had forgotten all about it.
I just found some fabulous thrifted yarn called "AIRY" in turquoise with turquoise shimmer at Goodwill for 50 cents a skein. I felt Glee when I found it! Will search for ideas on what to do with it after the Turkey Day Preps.

Dearest Dottie
In the dim & distant past (age 8) I wanted my bedroom wallpapered my dad said 'have a go you'll never learn if you don't try' now this may have been that he had been in the pub all day or the best piece of advice ever.. I was so proud of that room with its wonky peeling paper...So I am thankful of that day, it has taught me to sew, plumb a sink, fix the exhaust that fell off many times on various cars & many other wonderous things and that everyday if I want something doing 'I give it a try' might be crap but it'll be better next time!Your blog shines on the greyest day thankyou rx

I am thankful for my dentist and orthodontist. It sounds weird, but without my dentist, I wouldn't have gone to my ortho. Without my Ortho, I wouldn't have finally found what made me have chronic daily migraines. 5 years of mystery came to an end once I went to his office. An adult life of painful headaches ended within 2 weeks of starting treatment.

And now I can do normal things like take my kids to school every day, open an etsy store, decorate my house.

I have some much to be thankful for this year, but right now, I am especially thankful that this semester of Anatomy and Physiology is almost over. At my house, this will be the year remembered for Mom (that's me) almost overcooking the turkey because she was studying about urine formation and not paying attention to the time!

Well, on a serious note, I am most thankful for my DH who is my best friend and soulmate. And for my Father God and Saviour Jesus Who sent Mike to me :) Our two precious Jack Russell Terriers, Annie and Spencer, whom we had to pour our hearts into for 17 and 13 years respectively.
On a not-so-serious note, I guess I too will be thankful for my serious nosehair. It's become much more populated as the eyelashes and brow hair have diminished. I don't have to pluck my brows as often and have a nifty little Conair battery-operated nose hair trimmer now. They say that as we ladies age our eye hair migrates south to our noses, upper lips, and chins. I've found that to be true ;) But, I'm thankful!
Please enter me in your wonderful contest. Thank you ♥

Hi Tif! I'm thankful, amidst the chaos of life, for many, many things. I give you a random list of things that make me pause and remember how wonderful this dang life really is:
plush towels, golden girls reruns, mandarin oranges, fireplaces, pretty stationery, good friends who send parcels in the mail unexpectedly, baby laughter, the people who write amazing life changing books, the people who encourage me beyond all reason when I decide to act on my crazy adventures, and today I'm thankful for the guy who thought to thank me for doing my job. All these things make me grateful and happy, and help me remember what goodness is. Oh, and one more thing. I'm grateful for that moment today, walking down the street in the half dark snowiness, when I remembered something my late grandfather did once, and it made me smile at his presence in my heart.
Best Wishes!
