it has been many years since i wrote a christmas wish list
but this year i have one,
it is quite simple and i am only asking for one thing:
1. a clean bill of health for my constant canine companion
i have high hopes it will not be too much to ask for.
last night, Used Dog came home.
she made it through the operation which turned out to be a tricky dicky one,
leaving her with several layers of stitches and 30 plus staples in her side.
but still her little eyes shined brightly
and her tail wagged when she knew she was home.
('cos that's what doggies do best, even on bad days)
we lay side by side in the lounge all night long.
just me and my secondhand dog.
now some may call me insane, but i think not.
for my dog has been by my side through good and bad for over 11 years,
so at a time in her life when perhaps she is not feeling the bees knees,
i think it perfectly sane for me to lay next to her,
so she need not be afraid.
the next few weeks her side will slowly mend,
the staples will be removed
and the long wait will be over.
we will know if our Used Dog,
despite the doctor's concerns,
has a clean bill of health
and a few more happy doggie years left on this earth
so i must take a moment to thank you all so kindly,
for all the fingers and paws crossing you have been doing
on behalf of our Used Dog
and may i be so bold and ask if perhaps
you may care to continue to do a bit more 'crossing'
until we know she has a clean bill of health.
i know it may be tres tricky to go about your daily lives
with crossed fingers and paws,
but even just a little 'quick crossing'
every now and then would be spiffy.
and tonight,
when Used Dog comes home to the shed again,
after another day at hospital
and we lay in the dark,
just her, me and my florence nightingale cap.
i will be sure to tell her of your kindness
whilst i administer half hourly doses of ear stroking.
she will be back tomorrow with the peachy 'one little bird' to share ~ Tif

ReplyDeleteGeraldine :)
I hope your Used Dog mends soon. I am crossing my toes for you, because I can.
ReplyDeleteOh I will keep your sweet dog in my prayers. My Springer had a terrible malignant tumor. The surgery was so much more involved that we had hoped. Recover was long but she survived it all and lived a couple more years. Hope the news is good for Used Dog.
ReplyDeleteSending lots of healthy thoughts and ear scratches to your little secondhand dog from me and my little secondhand dogs.
ReplyDeleteMay the Lord watch over her.
ReplyDeleteOh bless ya and your Used dog. I have slept on the floor with a beloved doggie buddie in the past, it is the least we can do for our buddies and I am sure the love, reassurance and safety relieves the stress of them being ill. What a lucky pair you are to have each others love :) x Do tell her we are thinking of her...what a good girl...
ReplyDeleteOf course we are all rooting for 100% best of the best for sweetie dog and faithful nurse, let us know if you need anything, as we can pop down and help if need be...you & family continue to be in our prayers & thoughts! Trish, family & chickens
ReplyDeleteI don't think that you are mad at all! Furry friends are the best kind and deserve our love and care :0) My fingers, toes, eyes and everything else that can be possibly crossed is crossed for poor little Used Dog. x
ReplyDeleteOh Tif.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't help it, but the tears ran when you told us you slept side by side all night.
She will be good. She will come through and have many more doggy years with you at Mossy Shed.
This is what I shall be asking for you too.
I will be thinking of you both Tif, and keeping things crossed for as long as I can.
Take care my lovely lady.
Sending you love and several hugs for you both (& one for little Olive who I know is very worried about what's going on.)
Donna xx
all our fingers and paws will certainly be crossed for Used Dog and her tricky dicky operation ....my 13 yr old dog had a HUGE tumour removed year ago and then she split stitches and it took 7 months to heal properly but now she is running round like a puppy again so do hope your little friend has a clean bill of health...x.
ReplyDeleteIt's perfectley sane to lay beside your dog. That's the thing I would do. Animals are real blessings in our lives. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Used Dog,and I know that she is going to be just fine! Big kiss and hug to her!
ReplyDeleteOh Tif, your not insane.
ReplyDeleteYou are so sweet for your used dog.
And keep on doing sweet to him, then he probably gets better soon.
I'll be sewing, crocheting and cooking with my fingers crossed the next few weeks...for Used Dog.
hug.
awww, may Santa grant your wish :)
ReplyDeleteI will be hoping for a fast a speedy recovery.
My brothers dog went thru a major operation last year, he looked like frankendog after they were thru removing a huge tumor from his right side and leg.
He is very old and made it thru and is like a brand new dog now.
So hopefully used dog will become new dog after a bit of down time :)
Amy
Not insane at all. It's what I would do, if my dogs were poorly. Get well soon Used Dog x
ReplyDeletealice
I will add your wish to MY wishlist too....keeping ALL things crossable crossed as well! ♥
ReplyDeleteShe'll be in my thoughts... I hope her healing is fast and she's back in doggie health very soon. My little Buddy (Cairn Terrier) is laying on my ottoman with her head on my left foot right now. Wouldn't know what to do without him. Hugs, Teresa
ReplyDeletewhat an emotional post. i got teary eyed. ofcourse you have done the right thing and i can just see you lying next to her and stroking her ears to re-assure her. you are such a beautiful soul and she is blessed to have you.
ReplyDeleteI will keep your sweet dog in my thoughts and prayers for a full and event-free recovery. All the best!!
ReplyDeleteWishing your sweet friend a very speedy recovery. I always sleep right next to my animal friends, sometimes on the floor if need be, when they are ill or frightened or recovering from a vet appt. I do it to comfort us both and because I love them. They too are every bit my family. Sounds like you feel the same way. xo -amy
ReplyDeleteoh yes, i will continue praying for used dog's speedy & complete recovery. my dogs are so precious to me, i too would offer much TLC. blest be :)
ReplyDeleteOh how beautifully you write about your Used Dog. I hope she will recover soon and get rid of the stiches and staples. The best of luck to you both!
ReplyDeleteDear Tif I have tears running down my face reading your post. I don't think you're insane to stay up all night with Used Dog I would do exactly the same. I wish Used Dog well and will think of you both and cross my fingers.
ReplyDeleteSending good, positive, healing thoughts Used Dog's way.
Paula xx
Oh I'm wishing your little doggy all the best and hope she recovers real quick. I have a dog myself and know how it feels when they suffer.
ReplyDeleteLots of love,
Nadine
♥♥♥ best wishes for your dog. Animals are angels coming to earth to learn the people something about empathy ♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteGreetings
Stephie
You must be so relieved to have her back home. Lots and lots of love to your dear little dog, I will be thinking of her and sending out good wishes for her to get better soon.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like it has been quite a big thing, I hope Used Dog feels much better soon and that you can rest easy and stop worrying about her. She is a lucky little thing to have you to look after her - as you are for having her. May you be best of friends for many years to come.
Lots of kisses and hugs for her. She will soon be running around again I'm sure. She's definitely getting lots of tlc and what little doggie could ask for more? xxxxxx
Sol & I will cross our paws and fingers for used dog!
ReplyDeleteThankyou for the update on Used Dog. Last night I sat on the step with my (very old) second hand canine friend Mr Wolf and I told him all about Used Dog and we both said a little doggy prayer and crossed all our bits we could for poor Used Dog and Mr Wolf gave me a big face lick which he wished he could give to Used Dog instead, Todays post bought a lump in my throat and a tear to my eye but I am sure she will be loving all your kindness Tif and will get better real quick. Best wishes to you both from N.Z. Julie and Mr Wolf :-) x x x
ReplyDeleteStill crossing! Sending much love for you and your secondhand dog....
ReplyDeleteoh it's awful to see our pets so ill. I'm sure they appreciate it when we stay by their side just as they would with us. And on the bright side, she will soon be better with so many well wishers well wishing. (just be glad you dont have to give antibiotics to a p*ssed off cat - that stretches the bond a tad...)
ReplyDeleteHey TIf, please give used dog an extra bit of ear stroking from me and tell her my fingers are crossed and I'm wishing her a clean bill of health and many more doggies years ahead of her.
ReplyDeleteI must say a Florence Nightingale cap would look very fetching too...........
Claire :}
Hi, I've been stopping by at your blog for the last several months.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy that she's getting better and she's so grateful to have you! And I admit it's so fortunate we're able to be with them!
Two pugs, a black cat, and myself have paws and fingers crossed for your friend.
ReplyDeleteKeeping fingers crossed for used dog and you for used dog's clean bill of health. Glad used dog is rested at home with you.

ReplyDeleteCarol xx

Still crossed ...
We're crossing all fingers, toes and paws here in the North of Scotland and fully understand your having to stay as close as possible to your old pal. Love from Arthur.
ReplyDeleteI don't have children but I do have 3 little dogs that I love & like my own kids. My husband tells me I'm a pushover when it comes to Charlie, Ozzie, and Ellie Mae and spoil them rotten. I can only think of few things worse than seeing my puppie's sick or unhappy and feeling helpless. I will keep my fingers 6 sets paws crossed for you and your Used dog as well as some prayers and many frequent thoughts.
ReplyDeleteWill continue to keep my fingers and everything else crossed for the full recovery of Used Dog and am sure my puppies will continue their crossing ways as well. Love, hugs and doggie kisses for you and Used Dog (best send some to Little Olive too, we don't want her to feel left out.) xoxo
ReplyDeleteI wish your little love, healing thoughts and wishes - winging their way across the ether. I have 3 furry nitwits and hate it if they're poorly. Get well Used Dog xxxxx
ReplyDeleteOh'
ReplyDeletefingers crossed ♥
I just ordered your beautiful book from Uppercase
grettings from Scotland
Alicja
Awe poor baby, I hope your wish comes true and of course I will continue to keep everything crossed for Used Dog.
ReplyDeleteI too would have lay beside her all night, in fact I have in the past done so.
Vivienne x
Oh gosh I so hope Used Dog feels better soon and I am so with you on the overnighters with furry friends. My children spent several nights sleeping alongside our little Patterdale Terrier Lulu when she had been savaged by a pack of assorted dogs not on leads. We nursed her through the trauma and as you say the hope you get from seeing the tail do a little wag is so encouraging. Every good wish to you all and Used Dog not fogetting Little Olive who no doubt will be missing her furry friend. Big hugs xxx
ReplyDeleteUsed Dog is in my prayers. I will ask for a clean bill of health for her and it is so wonderful that you are taking care of her. Doggies love to be at home when they are under the weather. My best to all of you.
ReplyDeleteI had little tears in my eyes when I read your post and I will certainly be crossing my fingers and hoping in my heart for a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteaww, sending Used Dog lots of super quick-mending energy xx
ReplyDeletePoor doggie, poor you! Used dog will most certainly be in my thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteWe here at barnbug have every finger, paw, and hoof crossed for the speedy recovery of your little one. XO
ReplyDeleteI got a little teary eyed. I have a doggy friend too. He has been in our family 11 years. You sleeping next to your dog made me think of when I did the same thing after Tiny ate a huge candy bar. the only room in the house without carpet was the kitchen so My daughter and I camped out with him. Lets just say he got it all out of his system onto the kitchen floor intermittently during the night:) It's a sweet memory. I'll be praying all goes well.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for the speedy recovery of Used Dog. :)
ReplyDeleteSo happy for you and used dog. Makes me want to go and cuddle my Corgis. Fingers will be kept crossed for you.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed! Pets are the best friends any one can have...
ReplyDeleteso sweet.
ReplyDeleteprayers for a swift and full recovery for continued side by side companionship!
Oh gosh I know that feeling...laying there with your trusty companion in so much pain and not able to make it stop. Feeling so helpless. My prayers will be for used dog I hope for a speedy recovery and many more doggie years.
ReplyDeleteMarilyn

ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for Used Dog!
ReplyDeleteI hope it went all okay. Susie Q my dog has a heart murmur and a gippy right hip but I will always love her! She is sending used dog many loves and hugs xxxxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteI have had a word with Santa asking
ReplyDeleteI am wishing Tif and Used Dog a lot of happy dreams; and wake up with the birds singing "The dawn chorus" but shh... just a little bit later... so not to awake so early in the morning.
I am stroking an ear for you.
Janice
Bonjour ! I very seldom leave you a message but this time.... it's not a usual time :) so I will think of you both and plus and hope (I'm sure !) all will go well.

ReplyDeleteOh Tif, I will have my fingers crossed...i have a couple of constant canine companions myself, and when they are feeling poorly all I want to do is be by their side. I'm sure Used Dog will be better in no time with all of the love and care she has from you.

ReplyDeleteThat made me well up a little. I shall send up a prayer for you and used dog :)
ReplyDeleteCourse I keep my fingers crossed and I was also a bit in tears when I read your story, maybe that helps too? Take care of her and yourself.
ReplyDeleteOh, Tif, I shall cross all my fingers and toes! I do not have any furry friends but I shall ask Bill, my goldfish, to cross his little fishy fins for you, too. And if my boss asks why I have done no work, I sahll simply say "I cannot type today, I am wishing for good health for Used Dog," and he will understand.
ReplyDeleteWe are keeping everthing crossed here... Spanner is doing his utmost with his paws and ears... We all send our love to you and used dog, we wish her a speedy recovery, a clean bill of health and many more years of happiness with you... :)
ReplyDeleteEmma & Spanner, xxx

ReplyDeletedearest readers,
ReplyDeleteyou have moved me to tears with your kindness. i cannot find the words to express just how much your fingers, paws and fins crossing means to Used Dog, Little Olive and myself.
