after braving the freeway in the rain to get to the airport,
Debbie, Our #2 and moi arrived safely back at the shed last night.
upon arrival i made Debbie a nice welcoming orange meal...
since getting up this morning we have
nattered,
drunk tea
and nattered some more...
then dearest readers,
i am delighted to report
we got down to the business of thrifting.
i am not quite sure what Debbie will have to say
when she sees that Carlos my camera was stalking her
whilst she pottered along the aisles of forsaken china.
but this week i am in 'roving reporter' mode
(as we know, Tif likes her modes)
i was most delighted Debbie wore her green sweater
for there was no fear of losing her amongst the shelves of despair.
quite often i am unable to see what is lurking on the top shelf
but being lovely and tall, Debbie is most handy to have as a thrifting buddy
our little cart was soon filling up with treasures
so we discussed the merits of each and every find,
putting some back and spending our pennies wisely
for our week of fun has only just begun.
tomorrow, i am taking my soul sister to the exciting sights and sounds
of our local Department of Licensing 'beige and blah' office.
it has dawned on me with less than a few days until my birthday,
my drivers license will run out and then i will be in trouble.
i am not sure what kind of trouble
but none the less, the worry of possible trouble
is enough for me to drag her along for a morning of sitting in a waiting room.
however we will be wisely armed with our Mr Hooks to pass the time
and when the 'new license' is in my little mitts,
we will 'hoppity skip' it out of there
and straight to the thrift store i know of several blocks away
it may be raining outside the shed, but the sun is shining inside ~ Tif
Oh Debbie and Tif,
ReplyDeleteWhat a mother lode of a thrift store! Even I am astounded by the piles of belovedness to behold.
Oh so wise to pace yourself, girls.
xx

Ha! I know what you mean about having tall friends with bright clothing on while hitting the thrift stores - or flea markets. It's so easy to get distracted and head a different way - how nice to be able to look up and spot your friend from afar!
ReplyDeleteahhh you always find such lovely treasures! that colander is amazing! so is the tray. they fit right into your color scheme :)
ReplyDeleteGreat finds! I love thrifting!
ReplyDeletehave a wonderful time with your friend...enjoy each and every minute!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy you have your sweet friend in town! Please DO share you thrifty finds with us, it really is so fun to see your treasures. ♥
ReplyDeleteDo you know, I plan my trips around thrift stores as well. And now I have gotten my 7-1/2 year old one and only into the act too. She looks for little lost souls in the stuffed animal department while I usually partake in the book section, linens, crafts and sometimes dish section. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteThat has to be the most jam-packed thrift store I've ever seen. How I envy you being there! :)
ReplyDeleteHello there Debbie...
ReplyDeleteSo lovely to see you...
My oh my Tif...I have never seen so many shelves of thrifty goodness...
I can't believe they actually have places with this much stuff...
I am heading for a spiral of
"Oh poor me" why can't I be there with you both tracking down bargains of delight...
I do hope you and Debbie have the best time ever...You are both so lucky to have each other to share your adventures...
carlos did a great job of capturing Debbie in her pensive mood, so fun to come along on your thrifting adventure!!
ReplyDeletelooks like you found some very pretty finds at the thrift store!
ReplyDeletewhere is this thrift store? i just moved to portland from the philadelphia area, and i'm still trying to find my way around. and i miss my thrifting! thanks!
haha! i thought those packed shelves would cause a little light headedness in various parts of the globe :)
ReplyDeleteperiwinkle pumpkin, wonderful to hear you are passing on your thrift store love... gosh it is so much fun to thrift with one's child, i'm still working on Our #2, i asked her the other day if she would like to be my thrifty buddy but she declined!
i wish we had store like this..so many treasures
ReplyDeleteOh, is it weird & wrong, or weirdly wrong, to want desperately to take a trip to L'america JUST for the thrift shops?! I just cannot get over the SIZE... I would be beside myself in such a place (all the better for treasure hunting you see, two heads always being better than one), ah, jealousy!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI adore your blog and your crochet work! I left for u a surprise on my blog!
Kisses :)
oh my goodness! the store is so big you have to use a cart? must go lie down now, that revelation has left me spinning!
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness. I am in awe of the size of that thrift shop. You could easily lose me in there because I wouldn't want to be found so I could spend my days in thrifty heaven.
ReplyDeleteDo you think heaven will be full of all the pieces people lose to keep us thrifters happy even up there? I like that thought.
Oh my - I am feeling quite giddy at the sight of your thrift store! Why don't we have those over here in England? All the charity shops round here just cherry pick their donations, and then put a hefty price tag on. Why can't they go back to the old principle of "stack 'em high and sell 'em cheap"? Sooooo jealous!
ReplyDeleteOh Tif, a thrift store where the aisles are so long you can't see the end of them............Where is this thrifty wonderland, I MUST KNOW. It's amazing AND they have trolleys for shoppers. Waaaaaaaaaaaah. It must go on the list of places to visit before i die!!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great time together guys and enjoy playing hooky at the 'beige and blah' office.
Oh dear, wish our thrift shops looked like that! :)
ReplyDeleteIf you are soul sisters does that make Debbie, Debbie Angel? What a lot of fun you're having!! Yay for good buddies!! And thrift stores with crowded shelves of lovely things!!
ReplyDeleteSo huge, so neat, so clean! Will be visiting asap!
ReplyDeletelooks like a lot of fun was had by all :D
ReplyDeleteWhen does Debbie vacate the spare room? I'll book my flights ;)
ReplyDeleteOh my! I visited some thrift stores when we were in the US last year and I remember with giddy delight how lovely and big they are unlike our puny ones here in the UK. I can't wait to go back next year! We have No Roses for Harry too - such a fab book!
ReplyDeleteWould it be possible to get a close-up of Debbie's amazing scarf? Is it handmade? Crochet? Beautiful!
ReplyDeletei have NEVER seen a thrift store as big as that - OMG, I am so deprived here in little old Perth, Australia!
ReplyDeletewow, what a fabo thrift store, I wish we had some like that in australia
ReplyDeleteI am still reeling from the idea that you have shopping trollies in your thrift store....have a lovely weekend x x x x
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous,,I so wish my thrift stores looked like that,,they did in AZ but not anywhere close to that in FL..looks like you had some good finds there,,enjoy your visit..
ReplyDeleteWOW! That thrift store is huge! We don't even have supermarkets that big over here in my part of the world. I have serious thrift store envey!!!! I had wondered about it before though, when you mention using a 'trolley'. Now I realise that was no dottie exageration!
ReplyDeletenow that's what I call a shop :o)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness THAT is a THRIFT store?!! How easy would it be to lose your head in there?!
ReplyDeleteWoweeee, now that is some sort of thrift store, most of ours would fit into the trolley! Looks like heaven to me. Thank goodness I don't live near it, I'd be there every day!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your trip with your friend.
Carol xx
I am weeping in the UK, having seen a thrift store with shelves as far as the eye can see and shopping trolleys. I at least have my trusty 7 year old daughter who insists on bringing her purse full of pennies, just in case she spies a toy at the local charity shop. I have banned her from buying soft toys as alas we have far too many soft lost souls! Hope you have a tip top time with your best friend.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog, enjoyed the trip through the thrift store with Debbie, and wonder if you could tell me about her scarf...........I adore it! Is it crocheted or just a patterned fabric? Thank you!
ReplyDelete~jane
Stumbled over you blog on my way through Blogland and boy was I glad that I did. Love it! Loved your post about the blanket how-to. It was so inspiring that I had to make a post about it over at my own blog Handmade.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the inspiration!
Jeanette
oh geeze, your thrift store is like off the charts compared to anything here. i think people get up at 4 am to get in line to pick our thrift stores. this post makes me glow. yay, i am all over it. i wish i could take a friend to my next dmv appt. maybe a relative? good luck in your next hunts, looking forward to them. as always.res. seriously.
ReplyDeleteI wish we had thrift stores like that... looks like a lot of fun. I think I would have come home with a boot full of stuff and no where to put it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous looking thrift store! It's my all time favorite thing to do...
ReplyDeleteWarm blessings,
Spencer
Hello there Tif
ReplyDeleteIt is so lovely to read your excitement and delight about having Debbie staying with you this week! The thrift store looks AMAZING and HUGE - most envious, am I. Wishing you many minutes of fabulous friendship time with your dear pal, Debbie - enjoy, enjoy!

Is this REALLY the same place as we have in UK as Charity Shops? If so, I might consider emigrating - ha-ha!
ReplyDeleteWoh I must say I have seen some 'charity shops' (as we call them in the UK) but shelves and shelves of beloved bric-a-brac is a wonder to behold! Love your stuff and your musings! Hey ....so have you been shopping at Clarks I have the same pair of 'clogs' and LOVE them!!! Always a pleasure to see what you are up to! x
ReplyDeleteMy word! Another comment to express envy of your local thrift store couldn't hurt...
ReplyDeleteYou don't see ones like that out here in Chicago!
Thrifting with a shopping cart seems dangerous!! Knowing myself all too well, it would get unmanageably full and I'd have to sort back through it to weed out any unnecessary items that no doubt snuck their way in!! :)
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous of that thrift store. I have never seen anything like it before - Heaven!
ReplyDeleteWow ,A thift stor where you need a trolley! I don't they exist in the UK -Lucky You -
ReplyDeleteCan you show us more of it next time -How big is it? I 'm envious and curious both at the same time.
Dette, Scotland
Oh, I just love your sweet blog! I found it awhile ago and lost it!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter and I have a "young" blog. We are from the US and visiting out exchange student son in Croatia, who is getting married. Such a wonderful time!

Hi Tif, just found this gorgeous great blog de toi. I love it here! Off now for some more reading and LAUGHING! Have a lovely evening and a happy week. xx
ReplyDeleteWhoa...I keep coming back to this post, just to keep my daydream alive, that one day I'll be in that shop :)
ReplyDeleteblimey! dearest readers, i had no idea the shelves of despair at my thrift store could cause such a reaction... indeed now it may seem obvious as to my addicted thrift store ways :)
ReplyDeletei have quizzed Debbie about her scarf. it would appear to be made from a soft brushed cotton weave and printed with zig zag multi colors that do from a distance resemble crochet, she found it in TK Maxxs in England... which probably isn't a lot of help, but i did ask for you :)
thank you once again my lovelies for your kind comments. always, always brightens my day! i hope your weekends were peahy :)
ps. just so's you all know, for the record and such like...
ReplyDeletemy local thrifty store is a Value Village, i quite like pottling into Seattle to the Goodwill on occasion and before it closed down, the Sally Army :)
ah what a familiar move, checking the bottom of crockery. there's lots to be considered in that moment, before you either put it back or put in into your basket. i totally love your local thriftstore. how great you've got such a good thrifting buddy with you. *Karin
ReplyDeletewow you did good. you always do. amazing colors and pattern in the ol cart there!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I'm officially jealous over here! Our Thriftstores in Holland are so tiny compared to this Thriftstore!
ReplyDeleteI bet I could walk there for hours and forget all about the time 'till somebody tapps me on the shoulder and askes me to be so nice to go HOME! We're closing miss...
I'm going to follow you to see what kind of treasures you are going to find next!
Greetings from Holland!
