aged 40 but only just...

so this is it...
next time we meet i will be a 41 year old handcrafting thrifting mama.

i'm thinking there may be tears
i'm thinking there may be laughter
and i'm thinking you will no doubt be by my side as i am so fortunate to have you as my friends.

and on that note, if any of you wish to take on this challenge for yourselves, you are most welcome to join in.
you don't have to start on sunday, you can pick any day you wish and you are also most welcome to list any 'exceptions to the rule'...
just click on my little button on the side for details and be sure to let me know so i can add you to the 'challengers of the utmost kind' list.
as you can see i already have two willing victims who feel the need to bring a handcrafted, secondhand lifestyle to their home and closet.
kari and debbie, have taken it upon themselves to join me and i am most happy to have them and any others for company along the way...

i am actually most excited to see how things progress... what horrors may rear their ugly heads. but best of all, how creative i can get with customizing my clothes and kitting out my home with handcrafted goodness and thrifty items.
and not resemble (as i fear will be the case), a 'mad deranged bag' lady but a 'bohemian eclectic crafty' woman of a 'uncertain' age...

she is wishing you the best of lie-ins on sunday morning and one for herself as well ~ Tif aged 40 for the last time

  1. I've been preparing a blog post that lists my exceptions, but am really serious about your challenge. Already told my family. So please add moi to your list. Keep in mind that 40 or 41- it is only a number. You are still THE lovely handcrafting, thrifty mama that is Dottie Angel.

  3. Dear Tif
Firstly Happy Birthday for Sunday! Hope you have many treats and much spoiling of the pampering kind.
Secondly, As someone who is almost halfway to 90 (!) my post 40 days have been the happiest of my adult life, so I hope you find the same!
Thirdly, please add me to your list for the challenge of the utmost kind... I am working on my exceptions still, but will be blogging loud and clear once I am certain of what they will be.
    Happy birthday weekend!

  4. Age aint nothing but a number. How old is your soul? Timeless.

Oh who am I kidding - drown your sorrows kidder, go into denial overdrive, bury your head. That's the ticket...

  6. No worries, dearest Dottie....as far as I'm concerned, you are still a spring chicken, myself having reached the glorious "56" this year! And, haven't you heard??? 41 is the new 29!

  8. Wishing you best of luck on your inspiring challenge. I'm a newcomer to your fantastic blog. I just turned 42 (this week) and I find, as I'm getting older, I'm returning to my roots. I was raised by the thriftiest, made from scratch, homegrown, mom you can imagine. I taught myself to sew this summer and now I'm making things for my kids and I'm back to my thrift store roots. You're part of a great tradition of creativity & thrift.

  10. I know it would be fun and I really should try but if I'm honest I am really loving the whole 'shopping with my teens and sharing our clothes' stage of our relationship. I know for a fact that number 2 daughter would not join so sadly I will not be joining the gang.I will spectate and sometimes partake if that's okay?

  21. P.S. Age is only a number. You're light years ahead of me in the technology dept. According to the young kids, that'll keep you 'hip' for years!

I just noticed you're on Twitter. I haven't had the nerve to try to figure that out yet. I'm still trying to get used to Facebook and I've been on there for quite a few months already.

  22. Very Happy Birthday. I thought 40 was a scary birthday but I'm enjoying the ones that have come after it very much.

Have read your lovely blog for a while and will now read your tweets too.

  23. happiest of birthdays!!!
don't fuss so, 41 is not an antique, it's barely vintage ;-)

  25. Happy upcoming birthday! I already make what we use, or generally buy second-hand. That said, I just bought a new Ikea dresser, so I suppose that taking your challenge might be more challenging than I imagine. Let me ponder the possibilities. In the mean time, I'm excited to see what you come up with since you are already the yard sale and thrift-store queen.
