now dear readers i must ask you to try and stay fully alert and awake, for after my usual 'ramble' i will be asking a question...not just any old question but a 'technical' question...(pause)...i have given you time to go off and arm yourself with a coffee, or your favorite tipple to keep you going and your 'brain engaged' for the whole duration of this post...
but first, the rambly bit...my man has been absent for quite a few days, before he left he kindly put into the fridge 10 cadbury's flakes...i think this was due to guilt, choosing not to hear my cries of
"ooh, this would be the last jar of chocolate spread that i am opening" and
"this jar is going mighty quick, i swear i don't eat it all" to
"some one has been dipping where they shouldn't be dipping"
and eventually the faithful day when my last jar was found 'lacking' it's contents altogether...
so there we have it, on Sunday 10 lovely flakes in the fridge with a word to the kids
"now the flakes are for your mother, you each have a 'curly wurly' in the cupboard...whatever you do, do not touch the flakes".
it is now Thursday morning and the flakes are all gone, with my quick mathematical skills i deduce that i have consumed an average of 2 flakes a day (i think that shows great restraint)...however 'consumed' is probably not the right word.
as our #3 said yesterday, "blimey mum", (he's nearly 13 so i have allowed him 'blimey' but not 'crud' or 'crap' in his vocabulary)..."you didn't just eat that flake, you literally inhaled the thing, if we are talking world records for how fast a flake can be eaten...you would win hands down"...
of course the problem i am now facing today is, no chocolate spread and no chocolate flakes...
now the point of me being here today was to ask you a 'v.i.p.' question and also to say i am 'enroute' to my little shop where i will be placing some new 'wares' in the window...i did add a few yesterday and then got 'fed up'...am i allowed to admit that? well i've said it out loud now so it's too late...i think 'listing' is one of those things that obviously has to be done ("dah! Tif") but actually is not my favorite thing to do...i wish the 'elves' would magically do it over night...i tried this with five loads of clean laundry last night...left it in a huge 'dump' on the sofa and went to bed, hoping and praying the 'elves' would visit and i would come down in the morning to find it all folded neatly in piles. it didn't work...it has never worked but there's nothing wrong with trying...
so let's just get a move on here and ask the question...
"does any one of you lovely, bright, smart, clever, talented ("enough of the sweet talk, Tif") dearest readers have a bright idea for photographing 'curtains' for putting on Etsy?"
these pics are my latest attempts but the thing is about Etsy pictures is they are very little and square in the listings...i like the light coming through but it makes for a dark photo that really isn't very eye catching...then i was thinking maybe listing 'a close up' picture first...anyhow i just know you 'lovely lot' will have a few words of wisdom to 'off load' on such a matter...if not then i will have to resort to leaving them out over night, with camera close by and hope a passing 'elf' pays me a visit...
she's off to do her 'listing' and will try to stay 'unfed up' ~ Tif
I quite like your curtains on the clothesline image you up in your etsy store now. However, I do feel the butterfly detail close up might make for a better starting picture than the full on view. With your lovely swallows I would make your second post picture your first etsy picture because the flow of the birds is so lovely - only if the etsy thumbnail will capture that, of course. Otherwise I think the pics you've got are perfect and reflect the look and feel of the rest of the shop.
ReplyDeleteThat's more opinion than you asked for, but that's what you get =)
Seriously - two flakes a day! my waistline wouldn't tolerate that :(
ReplyDeleteI really like the curtains on the washing line to show them at their fullest, but i wouldn't use this pic as the leading one. To catch a cutomers eye make the first pic one that shows the colour and detail really well - this is your trademark after all :) As long as you have the word curtain in the title description then there won't be any confusion. Then in the extra photos you can show them off as much as you want, in as many different settings as you like. If someone is hooked by the first picture - remember first impressions - then they will want to know more about the item...
I've just started putting etsy treauries together and when i'm choosing items i go for ones that have clear photos with good colour and detail...
I hope this is helpful :)

ReplyDeletelovely ladies...i applaud you for staying awake through the whole of my post and i thank you kindly for the 'wise words' you have given me.
ReplyDeletei think 'close ups' is the way to go...that way i am guessing people are more inclined to 'click' if it attracts their eye, to see the 'whole' picture as it were...
All I really have to say is those are some LOVELY curtains and the world really needs lovely curtains. And I guess more chocolate!
ReplyDeletewell i have no real curtain advice, other than i like them with the light coming through the window and it might be good to have one pic like that as this is how they will eventually hang in someone's home.
ReplyDeletei just dropped in to say 2 things a) my almost 3 year old has been saying blimey since he was almost 2. i don't think of it as swearing, more a bit of cheeky old fashioned cockney. b) a bit late now but could you not melt down your cadbury's flakes to make chocolate spread?
just a thought.
hate to admit it but i would have pinched the kids curly whirls too...
ReplyDeletelove the shot of the curtains and how you do them...
I wish the elves would measure my windows for me and leave me a wee note to say if yours will fit! I'm back blogging by the way, not sure why I'm telling you as I have no clue if you have ever visited, but since I always read yours, it is POSSIBLE you have visited me, lol.
ReplyDeleteSo much is about the detail in your work and I agree with the others that putting a simple but detailed little square photo up to catch the customers eye first. Then show them off on the clothes line. It's good light, shows full length, a bit of size proportion too. I really like seeing them in a window as well. It gives you an idea of how they'll hang in your own window.
ReplyDeleteI seriously am coveting your squirrel pillow!
