Mr Vertigo and his tricky ways...

i must tell you dearest readers,
i am indeed feeling so much more dandier then a few days ago.

and if i blamed my apron neck loop then i fear, i misplaced the blame.
for despite it appearing to be the most obvious culprit in my unfortunate event,
and on close inspection it did play a part in my fall,
it is the doorstep of Mr Vertigo where i shall place the majority of the blame.

for Mr Vertigo appeared a little while ago,
i had hoped to not have the pleasure of his company again.
when he first appeared late one night
i said "drat and darn you Mr Vertigo"
i decided to ignore his dizzying ways and continued at my usual pace,
and i was indeed a fool.
for he is a clever blighter, taking full advantage of my fogginess
and dare i say it, forgetful moments of his arrival within the shed.

and so it came to be on sunday morning
dressed in my eclectic finest and
minutes away from leaving to meet my friend of the utmost kind,
Mr Vertigo seized his moment and pounced.
i strode purposefully in peachy clogs, from the kitchen toward the telly,
hearing the world cup crowd going wild,
in my right hand a plate of chocolate spread,
in my left, a glass of orange juice.
trailing from a hook my apron, quite innocently, of that i am sure.

out of nowhere Mr Vertigo pounced, as quick as a flash,
lassoing my leg with the apron loop
me and my unbalanced ways did not stand a chance.
a few seconds later
my plate and glass left unbroken still within my hands...
my chocolate spread on toast flung far away,
(little olive taking full advantage)
juice dripping down my head
and me, doing a fabby 'life alert' pose

since that moment i have discovered that hardwood flooring is not the softest of landings
and
after a short spell in the land of nurses and doctors, i returned to the shed,
bruised but not broken...
i am delighted to report my right arm is doing a peachy job at getting back up to speed,
thus me tippity tapping today and also dallying with Mr Hook whilst resting on the couch.

my leg is trailing behind a tad,
but nothing a few more days of pottering in slow motion won't fix.

i am now wiser to Mr Vertigo and his tricky ways
i have told him to 'bugger off' several times since my unfortunate event,
so far he appears to not be listening.
but this is okay, for i will not let him bring me down again,
no sirree, i will keep him in my sights
until i see him pack his bags and leave for warmer climates.
and i must tell you, i am hoping it is sooner rather than later

she is thanking you most kindly for caring ~ Tif

  1. Lie on that sofa and dream and dream, because this is only a blip in normal busyness and you'll never get to be so still again. You sound pretty chilled about the whole thing. Take care of yourself and don't wander too far from soft landings.

  2. I am sincerely happy that you have no permanent injuries but must confess that your story telling ways had me laughting at the work of Mr. Vertigo...Please forgive me.

  3. I am similarly harassed by vertigo. But, I find, the floor is the only place for me during his visits. I really feel for you, as it is the most unsettling feeling. And the tummy trouble that ensues is just fab. I have been taking a script antihistamine that seems to keep the fluid in my ears in check and thus, vertigo. Ah! A vertigo-free world would be peachy indeed.

    because we miss you

  5. I am so sorry about Mr Vertigo visiting you...glad to read that you are doing ok. I have bouts of vertigo as well. He is a sneaky guy, isn't he, and takes a lot from you. A friend of mine also suffers from this. It's not fun. I hope that he never ever visits you again. Take care.

  6. oh dear. bless your heart. i fear that you are in need of some "poor dogs". "poor dog" is what we used to say to our little corgi when she gets that droopy sad look... we said it so often, it became a catch-all for any low feelings....as in..."you got dumped....again?....poor dog!" or "flunked the exam?...poor dog!" or, and my personal favorite "you hung over the porcelain throne for HOW long last evening?....poor dog!" and so dear dottie angel, i send you many many poor dogs along with a wish for quick and steady healing....feel better.

  9. hi tif-sorry to hear you're not feeling well. i also have had dizzy spells(which are NO fun at all...you know!) i went to the dr. and he showed me "epley's(SP?) manouver" which worked instantly to stop the dizziness. what you do is lay on your bed with your head hanging over the edge, which is horrible when you're dizzy already, so have someone help you. you turn your head to the left for 30 seconds, middle for 30 seconds, then right for 30 seconds then sit up and you're done. it has to do with small stones in your inner ear. this may not be the case with you, but it's easy and may be worth a try. you should maybe ask your dr. before trying this...i hope you feel better! i love your blog! oh, i should say you are laying on your back.

  11. I am so sorry for your fall and I am entertained at your narration of the scene. "fabby life alert pose" had me laughing.

I am glad you are on the mend and wish you a speedy full recovery.

  12. As I read through, I couldn't help but chuckle to myself. You DO have a 'peachy' way of describing even the most terrible and unfortunate incidents. I hope your poor limbs mend quickly!

  15. Vertigo is insane. I have recently been afflicted as well. Missed a week of work and I never miss work. Motion sickness and everything. It has been almost a month and it still rears its dreadful head when least expected.

  16. Oh, I have trouble with vertigo from time to time as well.... but so far without injury. I guess if he is on the prowl I should beware! Glad you're feeling better.

  18. Ooh, Mr. Vertigo has paid me a visit a time or two but lucky for me he has moved far, far away! I hope he isn't your Mr. Vertigo? Hope you feel like your old self again soon!

  19. Oh Tif, I'm glad to hear you are on the mend. The evil Mr. Vertigo visited my husband a few years back and stuck around for two miserable weeks (and that was just my misery not to mention his). Feel better soon!

  20. ick! i'm so sorry mr. vertigo has been visiting, that sounds awful. he visited my mom in the middle of the night a few years back when the whole family was staying in a hotel & it was just terrible for her, i felt so bad! hope he stays away for good!

  21. Poor you! Mr V is a nasty piece of work. The sooner you can get him out of your life the better! Give him short shrift Tif!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I hope he 'buggers off' good and proper and leaves you in peace (one piece preferably) to get back to your delightful ways.

At least little Olive benefited slightly!!

  23. That sound terrible! I hope that Mr Vertigo has since packed his bags or is at least actively involved in looking for alternate accomodation.

  24. Oh poor Tif, hope you are feeling much better soon and that Mr Vertigo does exactly as he is told

  25. Oh Tif, sounds like a nasty fall indeed. Please do stay on the colourful and cosy sofa with Mr Hook for as long as it takes.
Sad that you didn't get to meet up with lovely Alex, though.
    Take care

  26. Ugh, Mr. Vertigo is indeed a horrid being - on the plus side you can now legitimately bimble through your days on the sofa!

  27. Phew - I'm glad you're on the mend. In the words of my doctor when Mr Vertigo visited me earlier this year, "Sit and rest; it isn't as far to fall if you're sat on the couch". I fear his bedside manner lacks in charm but is spot-on in practicality.

Perhaps you can expand on Little Olive's hoovering abilities and make her a junior parlour-maid lol ...

  28. glad to hear you're feeling a wee bit 'peachier' my dear miss Tif... no thanks to Mr Vertigo, a pest of the utmost kind!

  30. Oh Tif! Poor you, you sound quite indisposed! I was relieved to hear you can still crochet though- there is no point being indisposed and forced for the good of your health to lounge around if you're too sick to enjoy it!

  31. Oh Tif, I know exactly what vertigo feels like. I developed it suddenly after the birth of my second lord and master, part of the hormonal merry go round of PPD (PND for us Brits). Thankfully the SSRIs knocked the vertigo and migraines into touch, but I still remember how frightening and debilitating it all can be :S

    *hoping you feel better soon*

    a) you are on the mend
    b) you are not wasting this opportunity to rest and be intimate with Mr Hook.

  34. wishing you a speedy recovery. You can trick Mr Vertigo by closing your eyes with feet up and dreaming of peachy things. x

  35. Get well soon, dear Tif! Your couch looks like the perfect place to recover, to watch the world cup and to crochet wonderful things and ideas!

  38. So sorry. I get vertigo off and on but so far it hasn't knocked me off my feet. I have run into a few walls and appeared a little intoxicated and since I don't drink, that can be embarrasing. Do you know what causes yours. Take care and lay low for awhile. ((((HUGS))))

  45. my sincerest best wishes for feeling better. I used to have periodic bouts of vertigo (meniere's with vomiting too) and it was just awful. I went to a homeopath and also got some cranial sacral work and it has never come back. (been 11 years) Hope you get to the bottom of yours, we cannot have chocolate flung onto your beautiful white crochet!

  48. Oh, my sympathies! I recently came crashing down to Earth in a very unladylike way - the culprit being my big feet (caught around chair legs!). The down side of this (apart from the bruises to my right side and my dignity) was that it happened in front of 25 five year olds. The upside - I didn't land on a single child! Could have been very messy! Hope your bruises etc are healing up.x Caroline

  52. I thought Mr Vertigo was only MY special friend: He visited last week while I had my head in my bottom drawer looking for that lost spool of cotton, and on other such occcasions...
I hope you'll keep your pinnies all hooked up from now on;O)
Thank you so much for sharing your life, I love you blog enormously!

  58. You poor thing! I do sympathise - I had some weird thing going on some years back. Even when I was lying down it felt like I was going to fall over and even turning my head was just a disorientating hell. It was actually very frightening. I think I had some kind of inner ear infection. Walking felt like I was running in circles. Absolutely horrible. I do hope you feel better, both from your war wounds and your vertigo. Wishing you a speedy back to normal.
