a 'granny chic' giveaway...

oh, i do like a little giveaway
and even more so
a 'granny chic' giveaway

up for grabs is my crocheted granny cushion.
i made her at the beginning of the year.
my little heart swelled with pride upon her completion...
since then she has led a sheltered life,
never being allowed to shine in all her glory
for fear of two and four legged members of mossy shed
causing her a blemish or injury to her pretty ways

i'm thinking it is time she found a forever home,
one that will appreciate her crocheted 'granny chic' goodness.
if you think perhaps you are the granny chic loving home for her
then all you have to do is find your thinking cap and pop it on.

now of course, once again we all know thinking caps can go astray.
but do not fret,
nor run around your abode screaming like a mad one,
causing a fright for all that live with you.
take some deep breaths,
and stay calm,
for you have plenty of time to locate your little cap.
this little giveaway is staying open until
Sunday 30th May 10:00pm pacific time
that is nearly a whole week...
see, plenty of time indeed

once your thinking cap has been located
pop it upon your nut
and then ponder,
you may have to ponder a while
but ponder you must.

i'm thinking for some it may require several days of pondering,
therefore you may have go to work,
perhaps do the grocery shop with your thinking cap,
or even the soccer run...
i'm not sure for those that like to keep a little fit,
how yoga, or swimming fairs with a thinking cap.
i see no harm in removing it whilst you 'keep fit' and then popping it back quick haste afterwards.
being sure of course to keep it safely in the changing room locker whilst you 'keep fit'
for losing it so soon after finding it would surely be quite sad

so my dearest readers
all you have to think about is a philosophy or quote,
some words or a saying,
you like to live by...
if it is one that was written by another
(for there are many famous ones out there)
then that is perfectly okay with me
but please do put who the quote or philosophy belonged to originally.

perhaps it is nothing deep,
quite simply along the lines of
"i try to smile once a day at a passing stranger"
or
"i make sure i hug a tree everyday"
and that is perfectly perfect for me.

i have one that i shared a little while back,
it took a little thinking with the help of my cap,
but when it popped into my little brain
it felt quite right.

Tif's Philosophy
"if i go to sleep at night
knowing i have visited my imagination,
however fleeting it may have been,
then i know i have used my day wisely"

you can enter here in the comments
or email me
do be sure to have an email or blog address
so i may easily contact you

and with that my dearest readers
i am taking a few days off
i shall be pottering with Miss Ethel,
going on a school trip with a bunch of eighteen year olds,
sending our #4 off on a two day school trip
and with a bit of luck,
some crocheting...
all the usual fun and gripping stuff that goes on around the shed.
i will be back on Wednesday 2nd June
with a worthy winner
granny chic giveaway is now CLOSED,
thank you kindly

she is wishing you a peachy week and plenty of thinking time with your caps ~ Tif
footynote: here's the original post where i linked to the pattern for the lovely crocheted granny circle squares. the wonderfully peachy Yvestown kindly shared her pattern :)

My favourite saying is one my grandmother Daisy mac used to say:
'If you can't have what you want tnen you must want what you have'
I have found this so uplifting and in the true essence of thrift.for example -I do not live in my dream house but I have made my home as close to my ideal as possible with very little means and I have gained a great deal of pleasure from that and will continue to do so in the spirti of the challenge of the utmost kind.
PS.I love your poetry,TIf.And I love your crochet!!

Have fun on your school trip!! Love to take part in your giveaway. The pillow is so pretty!

My quote is 'to always have something to dream about' I think that dreaming about things, how small they may be, makes you into a happier person! It's great when now and then, when you are lucky, they become true!

I am dreaming about your beautiful pillow in my garden house...It would look so beautiful there! Well, you never know.... ;-)!

Oh Dottie, what a fantastic giveaway! It reminds me of the crocheted vests (yes, vests!) my sister used to make for us younger sibs in the 70s. So very groovy...

Anyway, enough about that. To the quote: after much pondering and rejecting a few that came to mind, I think I must go with, "Everything in moderation." I know, not very sexy, but in truth, living this way lets you try everything -- no reason to say no to a glass (or two) of wine, french fries, that lovely pair of shoes, etc. etc. Just enjoy life (hey, that's another one!)...

From Bruce Mau's Incomplete Design Manifesto:

Coffee breaks, cab rides, green rooms.

Real growth often happens outside of where we intend it to, in the interstitial spaces – what Dr. Seuss calls "the waiting place." Hans Ulrich Obrist once organized a science and art conference with all of the infrastructure of a conference – the parties, chats, lunches, airport arrivals – but with no actual conference. Apparently it was hugely successful and spawned many ongoing collaborations.

"For my part I have clung to the knowledge, hope and belief that no matter where you are in physical being, friends are with you forever and always, they are by your side in some form through the rough and the smooth, the happy and the sad, the elation and sorrow and mark my words they will be there for an eternity"

Of course there are many other important/deeper things in my life but these two are always a constant.

Have a great week end!

My favorite saying is one my father used all the time and it stood him in good stead for 83 years. He recently passed away. I am sure it was from someone else, but I can still here my dad's deep strong voice:
"If you don't have anything good to say about someone, don't say anything at all!"

Now how many tense situations would that cure? It is something I always try to remember since I would like others to observe it about me as well.
I DO have something good to say about you. I Love your blog, your crafts, and your challenge!

Beautiful, stunning, GORGEOUS pillow! I want to learn SO BADLY to crochet and make pretties like this for my home, but my crafting skills are limited to paper. I did find a smallish granny square blanket, colorful with white edges, much like this one at my local thrift a few weeks ago. How lovely to have this on the couch so it would have some company!
My fav quote:Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions”

Thanks for that chance to win!!

Oh goodness - if this show up twice, then I apolagize! It seems that when I tried to comment the first time it didn't work. My quote is something that I suppose I try to live in instead of live by - it's the kind of thing that I want to be a part of me, and a part of my little guy and girl as well.

My motto is: "Sometimes I pretend to be normal, but it gets boring. So I go back to being me!" It's a trap I fall in ocasionally, being normal, but it's much better being me.

I'm working on a granny square dress... and as my 3 nieces all want one as well (and it takes nearly 200 GS's) an nice pillow for myself is many many GS's away... and yours is so beautifull!!!

I've thought really carefully about this, and have concluded that the saying

"Keep on keeping on"

just about sums up my attitude to life. It's been especially relevent this week as my beloved great-grandmother died early on Tuesday morning. It was her philosphy too - to keep on and do your best whatever the situation. It's what I've had to do this week too, in the hardest of circumstances.

Thank you Tif for your inspiration, good humour and creativity.

Tif, this pillow is beautiful! What a generous giveaway!

I'm inspired by all of the quotes in the comments. Sometimes I get a little blue in the evening hours when I realize I haven't gotten as much creating done as I would have liked, so I always remind myself "Tomorrow's another day."

oh the thinking i've done this week, but i keep coming back to the quote that originally popped into my mind. you see, years ago someone asked me my 'motto'. i'd never thought of it before then, but what came out was a quote from a carole king song: "you've got to get up every morning with a smile on your face and show the world all the love in your heart. then people gonna treat you better, you're gonna find, yes you will, that you're beautiful as you feel."

so, i've been keeping this in mind ever since. this philosophy keeps me smiling! i show the world my love through creating every day, whether it be crocheting, baking, sewing, etc. i love surprising my grandparents with sweet treats and making little crochet things for my mom. creating and giving is a good way to make friends, too!

i would love to give your granny pillow a forever home. it would look so lovely on my bed. pretty please, pick me!
