confessions of a stoolaholic...

i can no longer be in denial,
it is a fact
and
a truth, i must confess to.
"my name is Tif and i am a stoolaholic"

until friday i had no idea of my addictive ways and then as i stepped back to admire my newly 'dottie angeled' friend i looked around me and noted an abundance of friends for my friend.
i wandered into the kitchen and noted several more friends, rounding the corner to my studio, seeing yet more.
i gasped,
i clutched my chest
and
i saw what i had become
i raced upstairs as fast as my little red clogs would allow, clearing the little olive 'wall of defence' at the foot of the stairs in one single bound.
(yes even at 41 and a little bit, i've still got it in me when need be)
my bedroom revealed two friends
our bonus room, two more...

i started to feel lightheaded, trying to recall when this 'condition' of mine had begun.
my man's face flashed before me with those looks upon my arrival back at the shed, stool in hand. now i could see what he had been hinting at and yes, it would appear he had every right to ask with eyes raised to the heavens "really Tif, do we need another stool?"

i have always defended my actions, finding excuses, mumbling protective words to save my thrifty find from harmful verbal attack.
but dearest readers, there is no doubting what i have become, after friday's revelation, it is most clear indeed, i have become the Imelda Marcos of the stool world.
i stand here before you
(on a stool of course)
and with deep breaths,
reveal,
i am the owner of 16 stools,
it would appear i like them all

i fear my addiction upon confession has not abated,
for this very morning i have been rustling around in the garage to find a forgotten friend,
to bring her into the shed
to make her feel loved like all the others
and
to make the number up to 17

dearest readers, before you are quick to judge, perhaps 'tut tut' at my stoolaholic ways, do you think i confessed my addictive ways purely for your entertainment this monday morning?
of course i did not, i have my reasons, i have my cunning plan and tomorrow all will be revealed...

("oh Tif, what a simply thrilling, nail biting, gripping 'leave em hanging' ending!" i hear you gasp
"why thank you, i do try" i reply)

until then, she is spending time wisely, playing hide and seek with more friends in the yard ~ Tif

  1. forget the stools... I am smitten with your wallpaper. Everyone has an obsession of some sort... stools. I say harmless!

  2. You know... I think I only have one stool... a foot stool at that, that has been begging, BEGGING to be recovered.

If found the wrong home, I'm afraid.

  3. I reserved a place for you at "Stools Anonymous" a while back but you had to face it yurself. This recognition is the first step. I understand totally - my gorgeous girl threatened to leave home if I bought another chair into the house. I tell you I have been sorely tempted lately!

  4. ". . . . .do you think i confessed my addictive ways purely for your entertainment this monday morning?"

    Nope! Not at all, Tif!

    What I was thinking was,
"Hmm, wonder how I could find a few more for myself" [and hubby, of, course]

Hugs with smiles on my face,
    Gerry

  5. Oh, my gosh, the lace on stumps is just too gorgeous for words. And what's wrong with 16 stools? Nothing, I say.

  7. Oh Tif, I started laughing at you and your stools but then I looked at your dresser drawers and as you were going about finding stools in my mind there was one dresser after another and when you went to the garage I had to yell Stop!! No more, I too have a problem...

  8. This post really made my day.

I have a similar issue with a few things but especially cardigans! Vintage new embellished, thrifted, customised. I wouldn't like to count them but I can hazard a guess and think the numbers would come in around 30+!

Enjoy your renovations. Each one is more beautiful than the last.

  9. My goodness! What a thrilling collection. If I had 17 stools in my little cottage I wouldn't have room to move. That's why I'm glad my house is high set and I can keep all my overflow of 'found' furniture in the dog motel below!! Cherrie

  10. I don't have a single stool. Have I missed out yet again? I think you probably need stools, perhaps there was something you missed out on in your childhood and now this means you must have them.

Enjoy them and always remember, there are worse things to have an obsession with in life.

  13. You know I have to thank you, I could be having the worst "Crappity-crap" day and then read your blog and it never fails to cheer me up! I have to say I love Little Olive and Used Dog, I talk about your blog as if you are a family member! Thank you! Erin :)

  14. Being owner of several stools myself, I must remind you, dear Tif, that the key word in your stools descriptions is "useful". Every one of my dear stools is just that. Useful. Anything else is just a perk! You may console yourself with that thought.

  15. Tif,
I can appreciate your appreciation for stools....I have a thing for chairs (stools included.) As a painter, I've painted more chair 'portraits' than people. Chairs have just as much, if not more, personality. "The chair stands alone," I like to say.

  16. Alas, I only have three stools, and none are as pretty as yours. Can't wait to see what you are up to.

  18. I had to smile at your post. As the owner of a mini dachshund about the same age as little Olive I have rather a another image of 'stools' to the one I'm meant to!!!But yours are very pretty...

  19. tif, you do make me laugh!! i love to read your blog :) and after reading about your stoolaholic ways I muttered to myself "what a dag" which in australia is almost an endearing complement and nothing to do with its real meaning!!
    can't wait for tomorrow's reveal!! :) trudy

  20. I don't know, some of those look like foot rests to me: that knocks at least 3 off the total, allowing you to rescue another 3 from cold and lonely places!

  21. Tif - you have The Loveliest collection of stools I have ever seen!
I admire your "stoolaholic" ways and am now planning a rescue mission for a charming little black stool I inadvertently allowed my brother to kidnap at the height of his Drumming to Deter New Neighbours Campaign.

  22. well done on "coming out" with the stool thing. It takes great bravery to admit to such things. Looking around me, I seem to have quite a few stools about the place too. Actually, what I have is a lot of chairs, hardly any of them matching or even vaguely relating to one another of course. I really must document them all one day, as you have done so well here. Maybe my stools could become friends with yours.

  23. :-) aahh Tif don't panic there are many worse things you could be addicted to. At least stools are useful, last a long time and can't really cause any harm - you carry on with your collection :-)

  24. Oh...I have that problem with vintage scarves. I do not even know how many I have at this point, and I just spent more money than I ever had on a special one from E-bay ($14.99 gulp, I usually buy them for .99 cents at the thrift), because I just *HAD* to have it. Maybe I need to do a blog post about this...hmm...

  25. Hej Stoolaholic! I working on two new pieces for your collection right now! I totally understand your addiction because I 'suffer' it too and also am stool and chairaholic...

  26. I must confess I am partial to stools as well. they are ever so .. handy! glad to know that this is a cliff hanger, I will be counting the minutes until the next post!!!

  27. I think they are all beautiful! I especially like the crocheted stool. I cannot see a reason that you should not have all of these stools....so useful....

  28. i'm so happy that my little confession has you starting to look at your own 'complusive addictive' collections... i shall be back later with more as the dentist and her chair is beckoning me...

and ingrid... "sssshhhhhh" you weren't supposed to mention that! i guess i'm aiming for a nice round mumber of 20 and then i will stop my addictive ways. i will, i promise. i can be strong :)

  29. Your 17 stools and my 30 chairs could have a 'sit down' party together. I am now collecting school benches ... of which I have four. Am I looking for a place to rest my weary bottom? Is this a sign? No - I just love chairs, seats and for now ...3 stools arrrrrggghhh. It's the 'table' collection that becomes most problematic as I have not yet found a way of stacking more than two safely. And there are already 3 in my dining room, one in my lounge room... Let's not talk about the garage ...Sigh...

  35. Ah,,stools ; ) I only have 5 myself, but we do have 26 chairs, which comes out as 13 for each of us.
What can I say? We love what we love.
