twenty ten...

my folks have come and gone,
my kids are back in school,
my man is away at his desk
and my mouse is playing up...

not the mousey that lived in my studio, for he hasn't been in touch since taking a long car journey last winter to new and exciting surroundings.
no, this would be the cyber mousey that lives on my desk.
the cyber mousey that kindly allows me to click on my screen daily with ease.
the cyber mousey i take for granted until he is feeling unwell, then i note there is nothing more frustrating then an unwell cyber mousey.
short of throwing sick cyber mousey across the room i am at a loss of what to do.
i've clicked umpteen times, cursed umpteen more and even tried a bit of 'dissecting' of the batteries but nothing seems to be aiding my cyber mouse.
i'm wondering if a band aid would help, perhaps one with a pretty unicorn on it, i know we have some lurking in my wholly inadequate 'emergency' cupboard...
perhaps my cyber mousey is purposefully protesting at it's lack of adornment, for most things in Mossy Shed are adorned in some way.
i'm thinking a pretty band aid may well do the trick...

in the meantime, to bring my blood down from boiling point let us focus on lovely things like New Year's Eve... i am hoping that for all of you it was a most splendid time of year.
for moi and my clan, New Year's Eve was most interesting indeed.
here's how it went...
i awoke, donned my dressing gown and went out to the back fridge to find the remains of the turkey and all it's bits, i placed the biggest pot i could find upon my stove top, made a mammoth amount of stock and proceeded to make turkey soup.
eight hours later of filling the shed with smells reminiscent of my childhood we sat down to dinner...
as you can imagine in the eight hours prior to dinner i was subjected to a stream of verbalness from my dear children that i cannot repeat for i fear you may be aghast at the horrors that came forth from the mouths of such young people. the only thing i can tell you is our #2 said never had she been so glad to be a vegetarian than this day, and then promptly shut herself in the furthest room from the kitchen claiming there was no escaping the retched smell of dead animal...

after our lovely meal, our #1 and #2 went out very quickly, leaving me alone with my man and our #3 and #4 to watch a movie.
by 9:30 i wanted to go to bed, but was told this was terribly 'unparty like' by all and so was forced to stay up to 12... to pass the time, Mr Hook and i whipped up a storm with my yarn stash of the utmost kind.

at 12 we watched the fireworks on tv and then endured another half hour of listening to the weather man tell us a warm front was in the picture for this winter and as if that wasn't exciting enough we had lots of bird's eye views of traffic jams around Seattle.

i remarked to my man that surely we could come up with something better to do on New Year's Eve next year.
he said, yes we should go to a party...
i replied i was thinking more like going to bed extra early with my yarn and Mr Hook.
he then told me i really should perhaps try to make 2010 the year i venture out a little more and take a few risks.

the next day i took note of what my man had said, and when our #2 needed a ride home from her friends, i made no hesitation in leaving the shed in the middle of the afternoon, dressed in my pyjamas with no undies on...
now if that is being risque then i don't know what is

she is wishing you some 'risk taking' of your own in twenty ten ~ Tif

  1. Happy New Year dear one.... x
looking forward to our chats in the year ahead - i may need your help in resisting peeking at the litter of mini dax that are being sold locally... yes locally..
i am in a bit of a state to be honest wondering if my own *little olive* is waiting for me....
what to do, what to do...
Stephen is hoping that we will be snowed in until all puppers are sold... i am planning on digging my way out...

  3. Here is a little new year risk - leaving a comment here. My peepers devour your pictures, I need one of your pinnies very badly, although the shop is bare, and you have inspired me to stand prettily on a chair in my mind's eye wearing garments made of bits of this and bits of that. If I purchase a second-hand something I feel 'utmost challenge' virtuous. Was there a squirrel at the nativity though? We will never know. Happy New Year x

My word verif is Cougle. It is, I belive, a search engine for big cats.

  4. I love your granny squares, at least you were able to do something so beautiful while being forced to stay up late :) As for me, I went to bed early, boring, I know.

  5. Oh you make me laugh!

Let me tell you, an early night on NYE was had here by all, and it made for a wonderfully pleasant New Years Day, no headaches, no body aches, no belly aches... bliss! I can highly recommend it for your 2010 celebrations.

Running about in your jammies with no knickers though...? I have no experience, and so shall not comment. Do let us know if there are any pitfalls.

    Happy New Year Lovely.

  6. you made me chuckle - and yes, let that be a lesson to those who said take a risk, especially since i suspect your mom (like mine) would be aghast how many times i've ventured out sans undies. it does make one feel rather daring!

    happy 2010.

  8. Happy New Year to you and yours x I am sooo glad that someone else still has their PJ's on in the afternoon other than me (sometimes, not every day !) but I haven't ventured out in them, well only into the garden ! but not proper outside. You brazen hussie risk-taker you !!!

  9. Cyber mouse ok over here but hand shaking so much from the giggles! You daring thing you. The most daring I've been so far is arriving at the neighbours in my slippers ( they live nearly a km away so too far to go back and change when it's too late!). But then - my slippers almost look like shoes and they are oooooh so comfy!
    Very happy 2010 to you!
I am having a little giveaway - I thought it might be nice if you had the chance to win something instead of giving something away for once. If you like - pop over to my NYE dec 31st post and give me one of your favourite quotes.

And may I say - I wanted to take off to the mountains with my calligraphy pens and a few planks of wood to talk to - but I was told I was very unparty like too!!
    Enjoy your risk taking!

  11. lol, its such a wrong feeling isnt it venturing out (even to the McDonalds drive through for late night Sundays) without grundies on, even worse when PJs are involved.

Congrats on your little adventure and heres to wishing you many more :)

  12. Happy New Year dear!

Well, at least you did not stay up late (whilst your Mr. was out having a hoot) drinking wine and listening to Otis Redding on the record player alone in the dark and still only making it to 11:30. I mean, that's what I heard someone did.

I do believe cyber mouse will be most improved by a unicorn bandage, if not...we may have an extra squirreled away if you are a PC user.

I shall have to ponder this risky business you have brought up.

  14. I love it. I need to venture off the rutted path more as well. I want to take a few risks. Do things I want to do but think someone might think crazy...like going without undies.

Thanks for such a darling blog. I love your wit and wish I could be like you in so many ways.

  15. Well, I'll come to dinner any old New Years if you cook.
BUT will leave early as I haven't stayed up to see the New Year in for I don't know how long.
Love your colorful crochets! ! !

  16. Hi Tif,

Sounds alot more exciting than my NYE...I was in bed by 9 pm. My clan knows better than to try and compell me to stay up past my bedtime. They fear my late night crankiness.

Happy New Year to all of you at the Mossy Shed.

  20. I love your granny squares, I'm in the middle of teaching myself to knit and crochet is next!

Pajamas and no undies? Rock it!

  21. Happy New Year to all at Mossy Shed!
Love the crochet Tif, I see you are getting your fix!
Now these pyjamas, were they cozy wincyette?
    They weren't flimsy floaty ones?
Once my son had a kick boxing exam and forgot an essential bit of kit! I went rushing down to the leisure centre with it(in the car) ,but wasn't fully dressed. NO knick knacks. With a skirt. It was a breezy day.
I was gripping onto that skirt for dear life! It wouldn't have been a pretty sight!
    Have a great day!

  22. Hi, I think your cyber-mouse may need a new battery. That happened to me a few weeks ago, I too reacted in a similar way. But that was all it needed!!

Wish you all good things for 2010
    :)

Heres to more fun and laughter in 2010.

I would have liked to have gone to bed early as well.

  26. venturing out, sans undies, is almost always just the thing one needs.

i hope 2010 brings you joy,& many thrifted/gifted balls of yarn!!!

wish me strength btw - i have to return xmas prezzies, & only come away with items that cost the exact amount or less. gulp. this challenge is challenging!

  28. I am shocked that you weren't wearing a vest - I never go anywhere without one in the winter months. I started knitting a fat toad of a mutant sock on New Year's Eve whilst two of the men in my life watched complete drivel on the TV and I went to bed early to have bad sock dreams before ripping it all back the next morning. Knitting in bed is just the thing - especially whilst wearing a vest and a shawl - a far, far better thing than painting the town red.
