yarn lust...

dearest readers, i am pleased to report that mossy shed now has yarn.
one cream yarn ball was found upon my doorstep courtesy of my lovely neighbor Trish and twenty seven yarn balls courtesy of my man

as i was lovingly putting them to bed last night, in our glass credenza so any passing strangers and my folks would be able to admire them, my man walked in
"what are you doing, you can't do that, the yarn is for christmas, i need to have that so i can wrap it" he announced, then continuing with
"how much yarn did you get Tif? seriously do you really need all of that, i had no idea you meant that much yarn, i think you've gone a little overboard."

i turned to face my benefactor and now it would appear my disputant.
(did you like those words, me too! i found them with the help of darren dictionary, he truly is quite the helpful little fellow at times such as these)
"listen carefully" i said, slowly and calmly, whilst stroking the mustard colored sweetie in my hand
"i have nine months to get through, nine WHOLE months, do you comprendre me? this is my one and only opportunity to go forth and buy acrylic yarn from the shelves of a new store. i think bearing that in mind, you may note, twenty seven balls is not, i repeat NOT very much to last a girl with a 'hook' addiction"

he started backing away from me and my ball of mustard delight...
"and as for putting away until Christmas" i carried on, with a 'protective mother' look in my eyes, "i refuse to give them up... i cannot possibly wait until the 25th to get my hands on these lovelies. so don't touch the yarn, do you hear me... DON'T touch it"
by this time he was somewhere else in the shed, knowing his deranged other half was slightly 'touched' with yarn lust and things could get ugly...

as i look upon my little yarn treasures this morning, admiring them, talking to them, trying to photograph them in all their glory, but failing miserably due to poor lighting and a limited amount of battery life found in a clock upstairs.
it occurred to me that i am none the better off.
for now i have a cabinet full of beautiful yarn in 'lusty' colors, so beautiful in fact that i don't want to use them, i want them to stay like this forever and ever.

she is thinking that perhaps she may be back to square one ~ Tif
footynote: due to my folks eminent arrival at the shed, i will see you on thursday... and did you notice little olive is still in training, quickity quick.
all she needs now is to practice with antlers on her head, i fear however the weight may slow her down

  1. I love getting new yarn, you lucky gal. the bright, bold colours you have chosen are like jewels to behold. Too right, they deserve to be on prominent display, for you to lust over and conjure up new projects, not wrapped up for Christmas!

  2. I completely understand your desire not to move them, or use them. They do look stunning all lined up like good children in the playground.

Best of luck with resisting the urge to use them. If it were me, well think of a child alone with a biscuit jar...

  3. Your right, it does look nice on your shelves, and I can see it does not want to move, however I know you can make it look better, and even make it squeal with delight., You go girl. Unleash your 9 months supply in one night!!

  12. Little Olive is so sweet, I never notice her until you mention it and then I have to go back and find her. I have mild yarn lust too, I always keep it for a while before I ruin it. But I am much worse with stationary, Iv'e got boxes of it. Thank you for writing such a great blog, I love it.

  17. Oh Tif you are a worry sometimes! How about starting with the cream balls, that way the coloured ones will still look peachy. Maybe you could frame a photo of them looking all so perfect so you can look back on perfection and crochet as well.

45 balls of wool. 18 different colors. Even orange, which I pretend not to like.

And that's just one type of wool. Lots more in my wool chest. Just waiting for that inspiration to strike. And before that - what I sight for sore eyes!

Since those pictures, I confess this only you, as I am sure you will understand, I have bought some more. Because it was on sale, there was no walking past... And with that much already lying around, no one else will know... ;)

  26. beautiful! but I think you have room for about ten more balls of cream yarn. maybe your parents?

  27. I would have spent no less than a full hour arranging and rearranging that spectrum of yarn and in the end, be no closer to digging in than you.

What you need is a gateway ball... just a little something to make you feel good...

  32. Love all the colors and they do look like art, so lovingly displayed. I am sure you will get your hands and hook on them soon and create something fun. I love yarn, but it is all tucked away in drawers and cupboards and trunks. Happy creating! :) Tammy

my case of yarn lust has become so hopeless I had to learn to spin my own. which is technically secondhand since the fiber once belonged to a sheep. yes?

  34. You tell him Tif!
I went to visit my family and came back with a suitcase full of balls of acrylic yarn which I'm STILL using (since April!) so 27 balls should keep you busy for a while - if you ever have the heart to start using them :D

  35. hahaha they look nice and snug in there! all shoulder to shoulder. Certainly don't look like they want to come out!

  41. They look wonderful in their cabinet! And 27 is not in any way too much! And how clever to go and buy the yarn yourself - when I wish for yarn for presents, I always get the "wrong" yarns, from now I will wish for money and a trip to the yarn shop... Also - I so understand you, balls of yarn looks so pretty as they are, it´s sometimes difficult to use them. One should buy duplicates - one ball for the stash, one to be used...
