might i be so bold as to suggest a few ways to wear a 'customized' slip...
suggestion #1 : AROUND THE HOUSE
(my favorite place to be, my nest)
a half slip paired with your favorite 'T' (i'm seeing an appliqued design here, possibly one you've done yourself) and jeans, skinny (if you dare) or boot cut (my style)...clogs on feet or maybe 'birkies' and a lovely chunky hand knitted aran cardigan to keep the chills away, allowing one to drop the thermostat...energy conscious and looking good, doesn't get better than that...
suggestion #2 : SATURDAY MORNING MARKET SHOPPING
(my favorite thing to 'do' and yet i hardly ever 'do', due to soccer commitments)
a half or full slip will fit the bill here, teamed with a tank and leggings, sheepskin boots or flip flops depending on the time of year...last week's pretty fitted cardie found at the thrift store and if the chills need to be kept at bay, an army jacket. it's saturday morning, no one has time for washing hair on a saturday morning so let's just cover up the 'unwashed' look with last year's knitted beret bought up to date with grandma's vintage brooch found lurking in a drawer...
and finally a french market sac for all that fruit and veg...
suggestion #3 : GIRLS NIGHT OUT
(can't remember having one of these in many a year but if suddenly i was asked, then this is the way to go i feel)
full slip layered over a plain black one...lovely funky woolly tights teamed with mary jane wedges or a favorite pair of winter boots (no sheepskin here, please)...to keep the cold out before the alcohol has set in, a knitted shawl giving the outfit just the perfect touch of 'boho chic'...("that's an exciting fashion term 'boho chic'...getting a bit 'fancy' here aren't we, Tif?")
and don't forget an Edna bucket bag for carrying your 'bits and bobs'...
suggestion #4 : NIGHT IN WATCHING MOVIES AND PAINTING TOENAILS
(not sure what world i live in at times...i can't remember the last time i painted my toenails or watched a movie...)
just a good old full slip, below the knee for sure, any color will do...if chills are once again a problem, pair it up with thermal undies...soft hand knitted socks, striped of course or maybe scandinavian, i'll leave it up to you. and the 'make it perfect' accessory, a vintage kimono picked up from the flea market at a 'steal' of a price ( i wish...)
so there we have it dear readers, i've been living and breathing slips for the past few weeks and my little brain's cogs have been turning as i 'stitch'...i am quite sure you could come up with a few more...
in the meantime i am off to finish up my 'photographing' and 'cataloguing' ("what are you on about Tif, all that 'cataloguing' nonsense?"... you are quite right i have no idea what i am talking about, it just makes me feel like i know what i am talking about, and there's nothing wrong with that)
the funny thing is i feel strangely in control...this is most disconcerting, i am never in control, i am usually running around like a headless chicken at such times...let's hope it's because i am a 'grown up' now and not a 'sign'...
she will see you tomorrow, cool, calm and collected (hah!)~ Tif
footnote: it's just dawned on me, i watched a movie a few weeks back with my old pal Debbie from the UK...we watched 'Flashdance'...what a moment that was, particularly when later our #3 (12 year old boy) asks "what movie were you watching?"
"oh, Flashdance...you wouldn't know it" says i
"oh yes i do, it's a good movie, i've seen 'bits' of it..."
and there is a moment where a mother is left not knowing quite what to say...i do not wish to know how he saw 'bits' of it and also which 'bits' (appropriate words here) made it a good movie...let's just say somethings are better left unsaid :)
Great Suggestions! I can't wait to see your store up and running again. You inspire me to keep at it, even with all the craziness of taking care of my family around me. The slips are beautiful - maybe we could see you or someone else model some of the suggestions you have listed??
ReplyDeleteha! i knew that one would come up!!
ReplyDeletesadly, i am extremely busy 'cataloguing'...leaving me no time to 'model' (phew! i knew that 'cataloguing' business would be of use one day)
maybe next time...
Tif ;)
modelling? what a breeze! of course to make me think "ah i could wear that" ...you would need to find a 'far more butternut squash than pear' type of model with a lack of bust (bust...oh i wish) and about 5ft 4.
ReplyDeleteOh what a lovely image of myself...but i have hope and buckets of delusion which means i can SEE myself in a slip and jeans (bootcut here too!). I am so excited that i think i may expire with giddiness. (or could it be hunger from avoiding food in order to justify at least dreaming about said slips!!!)
Seriously fabulous photos..they are artworks in themselves. love them. truly do.
oh they are just so gorgeous! I am so excited about the reopening and think I may have to follow a suggestion or two.... x
ReplyDeleteme again...back to read about timezones and when the shop will be ready...so my little brain can take it all in! i think i'm going to have to put the kids early to bed so that i can slip-shop in peace..however..the numbers on my tape measure are not the numbers i was expecting and so i'm now off to throw myself around the front room in leg warmers, flashdance style so that my hips use up less numbers on the tape. (Socks in the bra i can cope with!)
ReplyDeleteOh you've picked the most lovely of colors. I hope you have my size!
ReplyDeleteoh, bigbucketgirl...once again you have me in 'stitches'...i am hoping it is the part in Flashdance with 'legwarmers' that our #3 saw and not the part where it leaves nothing to the imagination :)
ReplyDeleteas to the shop launch and times...now here's the thing, my cool and calm thoughts have been thrown into disarray...i had thought i could prelist everything and then 'zap' it all at once, but alas this is not possible (see what i mean about swatting up on Etsy). so i will be back to the old way i always listed...slowly uploading a 'slip at a time' (unless anyone out there knows a better way)...that said i will start my 'snail' pace at around 9:00am pacific time...i am wishing i had a few pesky gnomes to help me out but it will just be me and used dog :)and quite frankly she's not much use with her paws...
i LOVE this tif! and i love how into it you're getting. you should link to this post in your shop so everyone can read about how to wear your lovely slips.
ReplyDeleteoooh Fran, can i do such a thing, it would seem most technically challenging but i am going to 'hop, skip and jump' right over there and have ago...blimey i think i could be on a roll here ;)
ReplyDeleteoh there just divine...
ReplyDeletei could see my self in the black one...
curled up watching re-runs of "pretty in pink" or sadly even "gilmore girls" a know so sad...but god i would look good doing it....
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!! Oh my! Seriously, I love seeing all of those beautiful details again. I'm sending lots of good luck wishes your way (although, I certainly don't think you need a drop of them) for a *Grand* grand-reopening of your Etsy shop. Loved reading all of your suggestions.
ReplyDelete~ Jennifer
P.S. I love what you've done with the 'comment' option - Thank you! It makes for an easy direct link. I really appreciate it! (If I do it 'right', that is. Holding my breath...and pressing 'Post Comment'....)
well i'll be, i have no idea how my comment section has changed...it just did it on it's own!
ReplyDeletei shall have to investigate further this strange 'happening' but all in good time...
What, no "intimate" scenarios for wearing your intimate apparel? Perhaps the pesky gnome could stand in as model.
ReplyDeletedearest mother
ReplyDeleteim sure daughter #1 and daughter #2 would be more than happy to model your slips!
