GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED
sometime around the october mark, last year, i picked up my rusty dusty knitting sticks and started beavering away on little rectangles. about the same time, the lovely Caroline from 91 Magazine ( a peachy online magazine totally free!) got in touch telling me they were working on a special crafty issue to come out in the new year. well one thing led to another and she kindly invited me to be involved.
sometime around the october mark, last year, i picked up my rusty dusty knitting sticks and started beavering away on little rectangles. about the same time, the lovely Caroline from 91 Magazine ( a peachy online magazine totally free!) got in touch telling me they were working on a special crafty issue to come out in the new year. well one thing led to another and she kindly invited me to be involved.
i looked at my little knitty rectangles, they looked at me and the rest was yarny history...
whilst i worked upon my 'little string of yarny goodness' to be included in the crafty issue of 91 Magazine, i was reminded once again just how marvelous little strings can be for not only cheering up a little corner of our nests but also our little crafty hearts. they can take some time to make, or they can take very little time at all. they can be made of so many different materials and the possibility is endless of the results. and so my little cogs only went and turned and that turning process led to a most marvelous idea... well i thought it was, and i thought, well why not Tif, why not indeedy!
i have decided this is the perfect year to start '12 marvelous strings of happy for 12 marvelous months'. whereupon each and every month i will show a recipe for a 'little string of happy' here on my blog so others may make some too if they wish (many of which will be perfectly suited to small beings and little critters) and after which i will give away the 'little string of happy' i made.
and so January's 'little string of happy' and how to make it, can be found within the covers of 91 Magazine on page 24 and also on the front cover, which i must confess i was tres happy to see. you will find all the nitty gritty on how to make the little string or set you up for making your own version. (ummm, didn't you just say that Tif?) moving on... you will also find an awful lot more marvelous crafty goodness from some marvelous crafty souls. truly this magazine is one to keep close by to get through the long winter months.
now it has been like forever and a day, many many moons, too many to count, a century has come and gone, donkeys years, since i had a giveaway on my blog. i fear my rusty dusty blog giveaway skills may just let me down, but i must tread, where i am fearful to tread and trust my little blog will not let me down. so here is the nitty gritty, if you wish to win the 'little string of yarny goodness' found within the pages of 91 Magazine.
january's string of happy, no less
* leave a comment here telling me what you do in January to make you happy, with your name and email address or some way for me to get hold of you
(moderation is on so do not fret if it does not appear straight away, i will check in every day and publish the comments)
* please only one entry per dearie
* this is open to anyone anywhere around the globe
* this giveaway will close on sunday 6pm pacific time. after which i will pick a winner randomly and announce the dearie next monday 27th january
i do believe that is it. my only minor fretting is, i have had comments switched off for so long, i am hopeful they will work for this. if not then i am sure i will get wind of it soon and go in and do a bit of twiddling behind the scenes along with a bit of muttering and then if all else fails, i will turn to my lads of three, have a little melt down and hope they can come to my rescue
righty ho, gosh, well, here we go then, the first month of '12 marvelous months of 12 marvelous strings of happy' (nice switch of wording Tif)... eeeek! oh please please work Mr Blog
I'm frock making, and doing a granny triangle crochet shawl to banish those January blues! X

ReplyDeleteIt's been SO RIDICULOUSLY hot (41C+) in my part of the world --Australia -- these last few weeks! But that hasn't stopped me dying my very first raw mohair fleece teal, spinning it up with latte-coloured alpaca, and crocheting the softest chunkier cowl ever! Happiness!

ReplyDeleteHi, such a lovely giveaway. I am very lucky and work in Richmond Park in London (I manage an education centre in the middle of the park). So this January I've been lucky enough to watch frosty, misty mornings across the park, feed birds on my nature trail and take my own children out with the wildlife officers to feed the deer at night. Back at home, I'm loving knitting with a blanket on my knee . X
ReplyDeleteGetting snugly under blankets with my little ones while we "school" and drink tea and knit. We are enjoying the winter, being transplants from CA to Kentucky.

I am finding little ways to make myself happy in January by taking time just to have a few moments to sit quietly and center my mind/spirit/body. I ordered a little stitchy book that makes me smile and visit blogs like yours that warm my heart and give me a smile xo <3

ReplyDeleteWell let's see...what do I do to get through this snow covered month. I stay in a lot. I drink hot chocolate with at least three marshmallows in it. I do a lot of crafting in preparing for the Winter Woolen Workshop (which is a weekend of fiber fun which is held at two downtown mansions that are right next to each other. We sell stuff that we make, hence I'm crafting, we sell stuff so others can make stuff that we make, and we have workshops to show people how to make stuff that we make) I am also preparing to teach a beekeeping class. My first. ACK! I stay busy, staying inside, but I am OVER the snow! Done with it!

ReplyDeleteI am a school teacher in a remote country town in Australia. It is a scorching summer here and our average temperature is 40deg Celsius. Oooooo, that is so beautiful, I love the salmon and mustard together, looks like a fancy meal. This January we started a new tradition, I was too I'll to go to the lovely Christmas market in our town this year, so after the Christmas rush was over (and a sneaky poke around on the Internet I knew nothing about) my bear took me on the train to nottingham, when we got there they still had their little Christmas market village all set up, there was ice skating and the stalls were in cute miniature German houses covered with fake snow. It was like Christmas had carried on just a little longer just for us, magical. thefrocktopus@live.co.uk xxx

Oh January, it was a nightmare because we are moving in February and we couldnt find a flat for us, but yes, we find out a new for us home, so I spend my time between some UFOs, some baking, looking at pinterest for inspiration, a new,for us, kitchen, a new,for me, sewing room... so many ideas, so tight budget, but at least, I come back to my home birth city, to be near my mother and siblings...

Oh, Tiff, the sting is perfectly peachy!!
ReplyDeleteThings what makes me happiest this month:
1) wrapping my boys in a snuggly blanket of love, grabbing a big bowl of popcorn and nestling down to watch 'Singing in the Rain' whilst it pours down outside.
2) trawling the thrift shops to add to my ever increasing collection of vintage embroidered linen and buttons - I will make something with these one day, but ooooh they are so difficult to cut up...!
3) lolloping about the countryside with my furry, handsome woofer, whose mantra is 'the wetter the better'!
4) spending perhaps a little too much time delighting over the pretties on Pintrest
5) spotting changes in the seasons, like how misty mornings reveal dozens of intricate spider webs festooned with tiny droplets of dew
....these are some of my favourite things..

ReplyDeleteOh I love January! I recently took up crocheting, so currently my favorite thing to do is to sit in my favorite room and crochet away at little hearts so as to make a little string of happy hearts. :)
ReplyDeleteMy very bestest January perker upper is to take my delightful and very naughty terrier Moo to the old disused cemetery near my house and watch her leap like a gazelle over the gravestones. The very bestest time of day is about 8 am- ish while the morning is still misty and frosty.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds way more spooky than it actually is, (sometimes I take my morning coffee with me!)
I love your blog and your crafty ways!
Why I go to your blog to make me happy in January of course! Also I surround myself with lots of colour and crafty goodness and nice things to eat :)
ReplyDeleteHowdy, well, my favorite things to do to be happy in January are to read lovely blogs (like yours!) read cookbooks and dream about food I might want to make sometime (I hardly ever do this at any other time of year)and go through all of the colorful decorating and craft magazines I have collected over the years, planning out things I want to make in the coming year. Smiles and Daisies, Shari Witt, momoshari@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI've been getting up at 4am every day...even weekends. Sounds perfectly horrid doesn't it? I can't believe it myself but I'm finding I actually beat the alarm most mornings. I even have a smile on my face while I struggle into several sweaters, put on LOTS of socks and head down stairs to put the kettle on (it's more than nippy here in New England right now!)My dear hubby thinks I've totally lost it but it's actually quite the opposite...I've found creative bliss! The kind of bliss that dear hubbies and cranky teenagers would laugh and roll their eyes at and so I don't dared utter a peep about it in their presence. I work for an hour or so and then get on with the day's hoopla. They are none the wiser but I am! Stings of happiness are just the best things ever be they knitty rectangles or a succession of early morning pursuing a passion.
ReplyDeleteHappy Wishes,

We start January with a clear nature table, drapped with a white hand-embroidered tablecloth. Onto this we let the weak daylight fall and the warmth of Father Sun if he decides to pop by. As the month goes on we slowly fill the table up with curious collections of feathers and gnarled "twings" (a cross between twigs and things) and (today's beauty) a leaf caught in ice. Tea, cake, knitting, reading, friends and family. All making me happy in Januaty.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet string of cheerfulness! As we're in the midst of renovating our house, the chance to declutter is truly liberating. Also squeezing in time at night when the kids are asleep to do some paper crafting!

ReplyDeleteHow lucky I am, I got here on time to try and win this beautiful, beautiful "little string of happy".Just to look at it makes me happy :)
ReplyDeleteAnd for sure I need that in this cold & gray winter.
When I am not looking at beautiful things talented people like you make, to beat the winter blues I cook cookies and I always have fresh flowers at home and have fun arranging and photographing them.

I have been sewing a summer frock so that when Mr Sunshine finally makes an appearance in Guernsey I will be ready to don my summer frock and skip out in the sunshine! (I can not help myself but skip in the summer time, summer frocks and skipping just seem to go hand in hand to me.......... it is a this point my 2 children now 10 and an almost very grown up 12 year old get very embarrassed, gone are the days of skipping with me, sad face)

Apart from the awful heat in Australia, I love January! It's summer holidays which means learning lots of mixed media techniques through Creative Jump Start, an online program of short videos from different artists, everyday through the month. So my day is spent playing with these techniques and hours of pinterest, which is how I have found this wonderful blog. Love your giveaway. Regards Sharyn
ReplyDeletea little string of happy over my sewing machine as i make pinnies from feedsacks for my dollies would make all parties concerned giddy indeed. happy 2014!

ReplyDeleteTo keep us happy during January, we usually leave up the Christmas lights around the house a wee bit longer to soak up the seasons spirit & energy of love. Then, around mid-January we start the shift into Valentines Decor to prepare for More LOVE ;) Kids love that!
Thank you ever SO MUCH for opening this Giveaway to Global Readers--makes me feel appreciated ;)

To make me happy in January... sitting by the warm fire with my husband Joe, sewing or crocheting. (It has been very cold here in the MO Ozarks!)

I've moved into a new home and this January I've been trying to get my little shabby studio ready to CREATE in. It's my happy place. And these little "Stringy things" will add to it's happiness...
ReplyDeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteI warm my heart with a huge open fire and keep my nose tucked between the pages of a book for the WHOLE of January.
Thanks for the chance. noodlebubble@hotmail.co.uk

January is my favourite month. I love the snow and cold, and it's my birth month. I spoil myself silly with extra time for knitting projects, pouring over knitting books and magazines, and figuring out what to make from the stash. Thanks for this chance to win your lovely string of happiness for January!

My mom and I both have birthdays in January (2 days apart!). We bake each other cakes to celebrate. She always makes a chocolate one for me, and I make a cheesecake for her. It's always a good month! :)

In January I get creative in my studio and sewing room while the wind and snow blow outside. mtsuz@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteIn January I like to look over my journal scribblings and calendar markings of the past year. Its a time to reflect after the festive high busyness of the previous month. I hope to apply any lessons I may have learned.

In January I like to get the house all ship shape after Christmas and ready for the year ahead. And some plotting and planning of crafty does for the year as well
ReplyDeleteOH I love so many things about January.
ReplyDeleteBut what I mostly like about it it's the fresh feeling that I have, the thought of the new projects that I will make in the upcoming year, the dreams that might come true...
Thank you for this beautiful giveaway,

January is the month of my son's birth and this is his 16th birthday year so there has been much planning and deciding how to celebrate. I also like to knit and crochet with bright colours to add lightness to the dark days of winter. nvscrapper@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI WILL, I repeat, WILL finish knitting my cutie-patootie caplet. I WILL finish joining together my crazy random- colored ( as in plunging hand into baggie of scraps and pulling out whatever color gets nabbed by my meaty paws) granny square blanket. Which started life as a throw, but is now queen sized...How does THAT happen?!
ReplyDeleteWill read waaaaaay back in your blog for inspiration...while trying to banish thought s of Alfeado sauce and Tiramisu from my brain...
Really a most marvellous giveaway! I'm splitting my happy time this month between a 'granny square a day' blanket, a super-chunky hexie blanket, and redecorating my daughter's bedroom. And frankly, work is getting in the way of all these happy things! Sarah - hometoroostblog.wordpress.com xx
