giddy...

i awoke with a giddy feeling today,
as i ate my breakfast i pondered all the reasons for giddiness within my day. after which i went out, upon returning i had promptly forgotten all but one of the reasons to feel giddy. i think that is the story of my life these days. if i do not make a note of things, they vanish into the little black hole in my head, never to be seen or heard of again.
whilst hoping for a bit of giddiness recall to happen, i waited for a break in the rain clouds, so i could photograph my one remaining reason for giddiness today.
'perfectly peachy pinnies'

they make my inner granny soul giddy with a wave of nostalgia for days gone by. the time when one donned a pinny in the morning and took it off last thing at night. yes i like to think my 'perfectly peachy pinnies' would be most suited for any 'granny loving' soul worth her 'granny loving salt', spending her day happily wearing them.

there is a front, a back and best of all, they are reversible, thus two pinnies in one, just like my granny wore.

tomorrow we are off to my adopted auntie and her little grey cottage for bonfire night, this of course is the perfect reason to wake up all over again with giddiness...

she is wishing you a weekend of giddy ~ Tif
footynote: hurrah hooray! one giddy reason has been retrieved from the black hole. yes yes, how could i forget, i am all giddy over my new knitted wrist warmers which turned up in my mail box a few days back! do you see them in the photo, well they are handmade by the lovely Jane and her spiffy ancient knitting machine... i wonder what his name is, i imagine him to be quite the sturdy fellow and quite hard work some days when he is playing up. the stitches are itty bitty and there are 24,716 of them, in my one pair of gloves. can you imagine that many stitches in one pair of gloves? not me, because i am crappity crap at knitting itty bitty stitches. plus i suffer from 'second sock syndrome' so even if i wished to make some, i would only ever have one hand warm at a time. no, much better i wear a lovely pair that Jane made, that way i have two warm hands at the same time... i am looking forward to a whole nesting season with these sweeties on my hands without a doubt.

  1. I have a set of those arm warmers and they are beautiful beautiful BEAUTIFULLLLLL!!!!!! I wear mine only on special occasions and sometimes in the bath whilst reading an especially good book -- I keep them dry, you know? But they're just so fancy and delicious they make a long hot bath extra special...

  2. I love your fingerless gloves miss - I had some in my shopping cart not long ago, but soon after discovered that I am moving tho the hottest part of Australia, and thought against them. Now I am sad that I will be missing out on snuggly, nesting goodness... Your pinnys are perfect. You are wonderful x

  11. Oh, they are so lovely! I'm finally discovering the need for aprons.. being a new mum, I've never ever had the need to use the blender/slow cooker/microwave before 9am before.. but now I do, a lot! And I do it all in my jimmyjams, and they always get covered in food splatters!

  13. I love your pinnies!!
My granny always wore a pinny, except on Sunday's when she wore her beads!
She baked her own bread and cakes, made her own jam and lots of other wonderful domestic things whilst wearing her pinny.
Thanks for bringing back those memories. :)
    Happy weekend Tif,
    Vivienne x

  14. Just a quick comment from Blightly to say how much I am enjoying your blog and the fact I have stumbled on a 'shoe-sister', being myself a long-time clog fanatic and wearer of Fly boots! This year's addition are the Sanita roll-top clog boots, in black. Bliss. I know you understand! Belinda x

  16. I love the pinnies; I just picked one up at an estate sale last week for $1. Not to shabby. But the even better deal was the "trash" bag full of 40s and 50s granny clothes sitting on the porch that the nice lady said I could just take. Alas my I am woefully behind on blogging, but someday I'll get around to sharing these delightful new treasures.

  17. Oh gosh, that's an awful lot of stitches!

What a great reason to be giddy, and what lovely pinnies! I made a pinafore with my mom when I was a little girl, complete with smocking on the front in pastels. Sadly, it lacked pockets. I've kept it, though, because it was darling and because it's intact enough that if I have a little girl someday, she'll enjoy it, too!

We really ought to bring back pinafores. They seem a very good crafty accessory. You can always have little tools on hand! You could even keep your yarn in the front pocket and crochet or knit on the go! :)

  18. oh many thank yous for the lovely pinnie liking and indeed the memories they have conjured up. the pockets are most handy for a number of things and on some they have several compartments for ease of seperating and not getting your collections in a muddle :)

as for the lovely wrist warmers, they are indeed as beautiful and peachy as you see in Jane's photos on her etsy shop. i must say, she has informed me she makes her itty bitty tiny stitches by hand on an ancient manual knitting machine. this is very labout intensive stuff especially on days when he is playing up! i am left wondering if he has a name... and feeling just a tad better about my knitting needle crappity crap ways :)

so hurrah hooray for pinnies, lovely handmade wrist warmers, the noisy plume in her bath ;), ginger and her wonderful finds, reannon in perth becoming an addicted blogger reader and everyone else for being so spiffy. yes hurrah hooray :)

  19. LOVE those perfect pinnies...hope you remembered to take the lovely knitting needles out of your pocket before you sat down :)
ps when I went to visit my mum last week, I took your book to show..but felt strangely uneasy as it was being passed around the room, and couldn't settle until it was safely back in my bag again, needless to say they loved it, depite my hovering over them checking for clean hands! x x x

  20. belinda! oh those are most perfectly lovely for the winter. my clog boots i found on ebay end of last winter, they are the sanita ones that look like you would wear if you lived in iceland or somewhere very cold. they are furry lined and make a lovely 'clomp' around the place :)

Jenifir, the pinafore was a sale find in Target, it was too big so i pulled it up at the shoulders and added buttons. then the funny tie it came with was in an odd place, so i stitched it higher up so it gave an empire line. i am most happy with the results.

Jane, funny you should say that. i gave my mother a copy and then i decided she needed two! one for keeps and one for showing to her friends :) i fretted her copy would get fingers on the pages too!
glad your mum liked it :)

  23. Dear Dottie angel,

I always love your stuff but these pinnies take the cake for me!

My question is totally unrelated to your wondeful stuff, The shoes/sandals that you are wearing are the perfect ones for me. You see, I was born with only stubs of toes on my right foot (I am 62) therefore I had a lifetime of summer sandals envy/problem/having to wear closed shoes. The ones you are wearing are PERFECT! Can you tell me what brand they are? I will be forever greatfull, the last nice "sandals I wore was back in the 70's with a model very mucho like the ones you are wearing.

  24. Dearest Dottie,

Can you tell me at what time your shop opens it's doors on the 14th of november? I will bring my stretcher and blankety blanket so I will be the first to look around and find me a giddy apron with which I want to spoil myself with because I turn 41 at the and of this month...
