so 'tomorrow' turned into 'the day after tomorrow' due to the fact i had forgotten about the dentist appointment scheduled four months ago...not to worry though, as i was being 'worked on' it gave me plenty of time to contemplate the question "to gloss or not to gloss".
i have been mulling this over in my little head for the past few days and it concerns a wood fireplace in our family room...my decision was decided in a heady blur of breathing in latex fumes from the hygienist's gloves, mixed with 'painkillers' taken earlier for my sensitive little gums...GLOSS was the way to go...i left no time for doubting and went straight from 'dentist' to 'hardware' store to get my can of 'gloss' and straight home to 'shiny up' the fireplace...i am not going to share the results today ("booo"..."i know, i know") but save it for next week, for today is 'STUDIO REVEAL' day and i must not digress anymore...
let me set the scene for you dear readers...when you enter mossy shed by the front door you are left with the choice of turning right to the family/dinning area, go down the corridor past the 'loo' to the kitchen/nook or you can turn left...if you choose to turn left then you are choosing to enter my 'space'...the studio has been made out of a living area that you can walk through and end up in the kitchen...now normally people would put a tv in here and a couple of couches and say "done" and i do believe my man had thought this, but not me.
when i first entered 'the shed' way back, i knew that this space would be an ideal 'studio'...at that time it had 'peach' colored walls and a red brick fireplace, but with my 'rose colored' spectacles' on i saw white walls, a white brick fireplace and some 'orla goodness' (thanks for that term, maggi)...
as every wall has a doorway, window, fireplace or opens to the kitchen, there really isn't much space for furniture, so i have ended up putting my 'stash' of fabrics etc in our bedroom...as i type, my man is in 'flat pack hell' with the glass fronted cupboard i spied in Ikea, that will "do just fine" for keeping it all in...
here's a bigger pic for you that i took from the kitchen, light isn't brilliant but i think it gives you the idea, plus used dog wouldn't stay still and look lovely but insisted on walking too and fro...the 'blue tape' at the window is trying to assist me with my decision making for 'window replacing'....
Mabel has a space by the fireplace (quick, put on your 'spectacles' and think 'stove' and not 'brass and brown' when looking at fireplace)...
my lovely prints from Fran have been treated to some shop bought frames and a lick of white paint...and Miss Ethel sits waiting by the window looking pretty for any passing strangers and squirrels to admire...what more could a girl ask for...
i have lots more to show, but all in good time...at the moment i am working on disguising the 'horrible horrors' called pendant lighting in the kitchen, but once again that must wait.
right, so there you have...the studio waiting patiently for me to 'begin again with dottie angel'...
she's off to brush up on 'andy warhol' for teaching art to a bunch of twelve year olds tomorrow, see you on monday ~ Tif
Did you know that Andy Warhol kept a diary that included every penny he spent on taxicab rides? And that later in his career he had employees who did the actual dirtywork of the silk screening...
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the new space... and I feel less guilt about taking a bedroom which causes my kids to have to share a room... I'll just tell them if not the bedroom then I get the LIVING ROOM!
I have to be honest and say I HATE gloss paint on anything - I am an eggshell girl through and through but I guess you know what you're doing??
ReplyDeleteYour workroom looks lovely and tidy and is perfectly placed so you can make dottie angel between stirring your crock pot and whipping up all your home baking;)
tif..
ReplyDeletethis is so inspiring...i'm showing all your redos to my husband!(we've been here two years and still haven't finished painting)
your space looks beautiful...i'm so happy for you :)
xo laura
ps i love fran's art....it's now on my etsy shopping list!
It's looking good! Sounds like a good location for you to work, too. I love glossy paint. I'm so envious of your white fireplace! ;) I've always wanted one. I tried unsuccesfully to convince my husband that we needed to paint our bricks white, in our old house in Michigan.
ReplyDeleteThe frames look gorgeous in white.
Oh! I simply adore you space!! It looks so clean and perfect for relaxing and cooking up new ideas in! :)
ReplyDeleteoh...my...gaaad! (as they sometimes say over there, or maybe just on the telly.)
ReplyDeletethat is so fantastic, it's heeeuge! and it's got this perfect retro vibe to it. i can see it with jonathan adler bits and bobs all over the place. i think it's that low wall/seat under the fireplace. that just makes it. i am feeling a mixture of total envy and utter joy that you found your perfect home in the end.
x
ps, i like gloss paint on wooden surrounds, like shelves and fireplaces.
Your work room looks wonderful. All the space and light. The white paint makes it look airy and pristine. I love that wallpaper.
ReplyDeleteHey,what a great space.You've done a great job in there.Love the wallpaper!
ReplyDeleteBl**dy h*ll.......it's gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteWow, make sure you keep it for yourself. When our back room was rebuilt, it was going to be my studio....but the kids toys have crept in, cat food bowls, dogs bed etc....You have inspired me to reclaim what's rightfully mine - ha!....
Well done, it's lovely x
This is so beautiful! I'm so happy for you/completely jealous at the same time! Cheers, Sarah
ReplyDeletethank you for all the lovely lovely words for my studio space...
ReplyDeleteWhat a GREAT space, Tif! You are so lucky. My husband would be so sad if I had tried to make that my studio. Tell your hubby we think he is extra special! Enjoy! And keep the pics coming!

What a delicious studio, a truly wonderful space...love it and your blog well done you look forward to more. x
ReplyDeletei am having serious studio-envy! my studio is dark, & clutterd with stacks, piles, dirty laundry, things waiting to go to the garage, & a ghost with a pesky sense of humor.
ReplyDeletetrade?
Wow!!! It's absolutely gorgeous!! How completely inspiring too. I really must get myself into action and reorganise my house. I just love everything about your room - it looks like such a nice place to be and at least you aren't locked away from the family. Beautiful!
